(Thanks for the Masonic allusion.). Paxton showed an ad on Sunday’s Cowboys-Texans game that included the signage of a missing child poster on a lightpole and the phrase “When missing posters go up, Ken Paxton tears them down.” Let us just pause for a moment to savor that d*** punch. Yep, Ken Paxton has the courage to stop those annoying missing children posters from blighting our urban landscape. Out of sight, out of mind.

RRJKR's avatar

So if your child goes missing don't bother looking, just make another one?

Mike_Cramer's avatar

Ken Paxton doesn’t care either way so long as he gets elected. It’s the millions of hicks who think science is Satan’s tool who are responsible.

RRJKR's avatar

It's simple. 5 people out of 10,000 have a bad reaction to a vaccine, but 10,000 people out of 10,000 have a bad reaction to getting the disease.

RRJKR's avatar

There was a time when you couldn't go to school or get a job without proof of a small pox vaccine. Everybody had that little round scar on their upper arm. Guess we didn't understand "freedumb" back then

HarryButtle, degenerate artist's avatar

We decided to be accommodating to religious whackadoodles and let them opt out "for religious reasons." As if infectious diseases care what god you worship. Give them an inch...we should have nipped that shit in the bud.

We allowed them to opt out of sex education for their children as well but that's a different nightmare.

I'm no biblical scholar, but I did attend CCD and Catholic mass until 10th grade. I don't remember jack shit being said about vaccines or abortion or the gheys for that matter.

RRJKR's avatar

Might be why their numbers seem to be increasing. They're multiplying!

I can still find my scar sometimes. I was born in 71 so was among the last to get it.

My scar is pretty small. My mom's and dad's were/are really big crater-looking things.

YaJagoff's avatar

Mine was a raised circular dot about the size of a pea that lasted well into my teens. I thought it was cool

Caepan's avatar

Puddin' Face Paxton: “I will ensure that Big Pharma and Big Insurance don’t bribe medical providers to pressure parents to jab their kids with vaccines they feel aren’t safe or necessary.”

And then says to himself, "Their job is to bribe ME!"

I saw a video last night where they put samples of PAB interviews into AI and asked for its opinion on his IQ. The average of the five was 83.

PAB's own AI gave him a range of 85-95 .The best was 95-105, but one was 80-85.

The analysis given was gold. They said he shows little capacity for complex thinking and uses circular reasoning and that he attacks interviewers and just uses repetition intstead of giving policy explanations.

Maybe it is super intelligence after all.

HarryButtle, degenerate artist's avatar

It doesn't take a genius to see that he's an idiot.

Fifth Dentist's avatar

Definitely that one is from the "Don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows" files.

But it's good to see that his new pet project is slamming him.

Not that long ago, the US was a world leader in public health. Thousands of epidemiologists from all over the world trained at the CDC. I can't wait for the day when this country does things we can be proud of again.

EyeQueue's avatar

We need to just roll these fucking antisocial shitters. Look at what they have done to us!

Mike_Cramer's avatar

That was before we gave the militantly ignorant a pocket-sized TV studio to spread their nonsense to the equally gullible.

Say what you will about the “legacy media,” but at least it had gatekeepers to keep this bullshit contained to the cranks.

EyeQueue's avatar

This right here.

Social media has murdered this country. That is what has allowed all of this to snowball the way it has.

SkeptiKC's avatar

Having turned 63 three days ago I am not convinced I'm going to live long enough to see the US redeem itself.

That pisses me off.

Fifth Dentist's avatar

If it makes you feel any better, the country was not all that star-spangled awesome for much of its existence.

It had a few brief periods of exceptionalism, but for the most part it's been grifters and racists and anti-intellectuals shooting for the lowest common denominator. Also war-mongering and hypocritical.

Underdawg23's avatar

Happy 63rd. Hope you have a lot more.

YaJagoff's avatar

A Happy 63 to ya.

Happy belated birthday, comrade!

RRJKR's avatar

I know what you mean. I am just bit older, just a bit. LOL, but we need to refuse to die until this shit gets fixed, just for spite! Remain a thorn in the side of MAGA as long as it takes!

YaJagoff's avatar

I'm 70, will be 71 in Nov. I'm not gonna give these assvents the satisfaction of me checkin' out. Sorry death, you'll have to wait some.

Happy Birthday week, Skepti!

(I'm not sure any of us will see any redemption)

We can at least hopefully hold the people who did this accountable and have a re-do at Reconstruction.

SkeptiKC's avatar

At least I'll outlive the orange traitor.

The day of his passing will be a joyous one indeed!

I was a child in the pre-vaccine days. Yes, I'm Old, I survived measles, mumps, and chicken pox. Measles was the worst and nearly did me in at the ripe old age of seven. Calling them "childhood" diseases diminishes how dangerous they are, and the anti-vaxxers just never have had any first hand experience with them. IMO anyone who knowingly exposes their child to these diseases by declining vaccinations is guilty of child abuse

Mr. Knows Nothing, et. al.'s avatar

Anybody remember smallpox vaccinations? In the days when smallpox was endemic in certain parts of the world? When NYC had an outbreak in the late 1940's and millions got vaccinations in a couple weeks?

Treat them like Nazi's.

pskbh's avatar

I too survived them. I remember the pox most vividly. Mom had three little kids all sick at the same time.

We were just happy to have polio out of the picture by then.

RRJKR's avatar

I remember people in line for hours to get the polio vaccine

Underdawg23's avatar

Got mine in school.

"Dear Ken: I hope you get measles, you fucking stupid eugenicist dipshit. Then I hope you get chicken pox and your eyes swell shut from the pocks, and as you are groping around your house for a glass of water you step on Legos with your bare feet and fall down the stairs, then as you are falling down the stairs I hope you somehow end up with a really bad version of the flu by the time you’re at the bottom of them!"

Before he gets the flu I want him to plant ass-first on one of his grandkid's toys and have it get lodged in his colon so that he has to go to the doctor like an episode of Appalachian ER on SNL.

"Sure, Mr. Paxton, I totally believe that is what happened. I get patients every week who have the exact same accident."

Won't someone think of the childhood diseases?

I had my annual check-up with my breast surgeon yesterday and when I said that, as an election worker, I was glad that my upcoming surgery will be after Election Day so I can work, she went completely OFF on Ken Paxton and about what a horrible, weird failure of a human being he is. We don't even live in Texas and she was FUMING.

When I think of that and of my plastic surgeon telling me that even though she would be in surgery, she was with me in spirit at a No Kings event, it seems that my medical team is awesome in more than one way LOL.

swmnguy's avatar

I had a great visit with a new ophthalmologist a couple months back. Turns out he's from the same small town in North Dakota as my wife. And he lives within blocks of me in South Minneapolis, near George Floyd Square and the Renee Good memorial.

He discovered that we're on the same side politically, and the exam went great. He told me my prescription hadn't changed, which is great because new progressive-lens glasses cost a lot. I got a new pair anyway, so I have a spare. For the dry eyes I've been getting lately, he told me which non-prescription eyedrops to buy, and told me to get whichever was cheapest. He gave me his phone number so I could bypass the ridiculous appointment system, or if I happened to have any questions.

Connect with your medical team as people, and good things happen.

Connect with everybody as people, and maybe we can start turning this shit around. Our systems and institutions, and turning all human interactions into transactions, is a pile of crap and it's becoming so obvious, we need to circumvent it and get back to people helping each other.

I'm really sick and tired of the commoditization and consumerization of EVERYTHING. And the way EVERYTHING is being enshittified by finance, and now the fear of insane freaks.

I'm dealing with a deteriorating low-back condition which just popped up in April. I have congenital stenosis of the foramina in L5 and S1. Below the spinal cord, thank goodness. But my legs and hips are very painful and going through the medical process, particularly the finance-driven part, is excruciating.

At each step, medical professionals are following the new direction of the industry. They tell me what they see, suggest options, and then make sure I feel like I'm making the decisions about my care. I've noticed this in every aspect of healthcare since COVID, when all the freaks got loose.

I've lost my patience with this approach. A couple weeks ago the LPN supervising my spinal care started in with this, and I cut her off.

"If I'm making the decisions on my healthcare, I want you to prescribe bacon, ice cream, and a nice bottle of Scotch. Because, you see, I don't know anything about healthcare. I came here because you went to medical school and see patients every day. I want to know what you think when you look at me and the imagery. I want to know what you think, based on your education and experience, is likely to work out the best. I'm stuck in this thing [tapping my chest] for another 30-35 years, and I want to be as functional and pain-free as I can be and I can't do that unless you tell me what you think My opinion on staging a live event is relevant. My opinion on my spinal care is not relevant because I don't know anything about it."

That changed the whole tenor of the conversation for the better. She told me. I said, "OK, that sounds reasonable. Let's head in that direction."

Same for vaccines. My GP wouldn't say whether or not I should get the COVID shot. Again. I've had 7, he won't suggest I get the 8th. So I had to say, "My work requires a lot of travel, and being in large crowds. Everybody I know has had COVID at least twice. I know I've had it 3 times, and possibly 5 or 6. Upper respiratory illness is an occupational hazard. I would feel at risk if I didn't have the COVID and Influenza shots, and whatever else a medical professional would think is even possibly a good idea. So I think I'm going to get those two, and probably pneumococcal pneumonia. What do you think?"

He said, "I think that's a good idea."

Christ on a stick, these lunatics have damaged medicine so badly, you damn near have to trick medical professionals into telling you what they think. If you don't want to get advice from a doctor, why the fuck did you go there??? And what purpose is served by making it damn-near impossible to get what you came for and are paying for???

Sgt JMK's avatar

I'm in treatment for a second cancer in 4 years and I always tell the latest doctor I have to see that, while I'm an intelligent person, they're the ones who went to medical school so I won't try to interpret bloodwork results or imaging reports or offer treatment suggestions. I expect to set a general direction - like "more or less intervention" - but it's up to them to find the right specific treatments without my input and then tell me why it's the right way to go to get my informed consent. It's like you can see them visibly relax.

A few of them have told me how frustrating it is to deal with people who come in with the attitude that they're customers, not patients and then complain that they "saw this on TV and it said it's for a condition similar to mine so dammit, I insist you prescribe it for me," or the saw "miracle cure!" spam on social media and demand to know why they're not getting that "cure," or who think they should direct their treatment based on what they read on WebMD.

I once told my oncologist that if I go to a new restaurant, I'll ask the waiter for a recommendation, but I don't expect to stand in the kitchen and tell the chef what ingredients to use or how to cook the meal I chose - that's his job.

There's a reason I've treated with so much love and kindness by my doctors and nurses - it's because I trust them and connect with them as people, not "providers."

tehbaddr's avatar

That'll be $20 for your rant, same as downtown.

swmnguy's avatar

Put it on my tab. I'll pay it when I get a paper bill, in the mail.

Russell Jones's avatar

I'm sorry you're going through that shit, man. Sounds downright awful.

I went to a family practice provider awhile back (at my wife's insistence). She vaccinated me against pneumonia and tetanus (?) but categorically refused to make a recommendation one way or the other as to flu and COVID.

Decades ago, the last time I went to a family practitioner was for headaches that were giving me double vision. That fucker asked, "Do you want an MRI?"

I'm not delusional enough to believe in "informed consent." The human body, injuries, and disease processes are complicated as hell, way beyond my capabilities. That's why I go to experts. But expertise isn't worth much if fuckers are afraid to use it.

swmnguy's avatar

Eh, whaddaya gonna do. I spent the first 40 years of my life violating the warranty. The next 15 thinking I'd gotten away with it for the most part. The past 5 realizing no, I haven't. All good. I'm fine with my part in it.

"Do you want an MRI?" Fuck no! I want a steak, a nice glass of wine, and maybe a hit or two of some very nice weed.

Do I need an MRI so you can figure out if I have a brain tumor? If "Yes," than "Yes," I want an MRI.

I've also noticed that every medical provider has posted, in every room, placards saying that it's forbidden to threaten or assault anyone there; be it verbally or physically.

They wouldn't do that if they didn't have good reason. So that's what's going on here. That's why they're afraid. I guess we have to respond proactively, as we would to someone we could tell was afraid of us, to let them know they don't need to be afraid.

How messed-up is that?
