If you don't live in TX or pay close attention to TX politics, you don't get just how ADORED Paxton is. They elect him in spite of the indictments, impeachment, and numerous scandals. And that's before considering all the dark money from the oil billionaires. I love me some Talarico, but "Blue Texas" is a pipedream.

This Senate election is a great opportunity for Texans to show us that they can do better than they have done in the past two decades of Republican rule. Senators are elected in state-wide elections. Their victories cannot be gerrymandered.

Talarico and Paxton have shown us who they are. Now the voters of Texas can show us who they are.

Worth remembering that TX GOP primary voters are the most extreme republicans in the state - it’s a total loon fest and they depend on normal conservative leaning voters not noticing that they’ve picked the craziest people in their party for everything.

Kwami Ishmael's avatar

And yet they win the general.... Sure, hoping this time's the exception, but I'm happy to take any bets against Paxton.

As son as the primaries end they dial back on the crazy, and lots of people don’t pay much attention to the primaries….

Katie Miller Says Telling Her ‘Ugly F***’ Husband to ‘Shut Up’ Is ‘Violent Political Rhetoric’

Miller’s husband, Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, posted on X that Talarico is “transgender,” to which the official Democratic Party account replied, “shut up you ugly f***.”

Katie Miller appeared on Wednesday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle on Fox News, where she alleged that response amounted to violent discourse.

“This is the same violent political rhetoric that is leading people to shooting up, whether it be the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, or President Trump in Butler,” she said. “But what remains to be seen is this is an anonymous account, and it is run actually by a sad liberal woman named Paulina, which is why Pew says 50% of liberal women at some time have identified that they have a mental health disorder. And she is certainly one of them. What a sad state for the pathetic Democrat party.”

Elno merged the money losing xAI and twitter into SpaceX so he can pay off all the debt he incurred buying then destroying twitter. His "xAI" has about 3% market share, so that's a loser, also too. Can't imagine any enterprise that would want the nazis on twitter to be the source of all data for decision making.

The show filling Colbert's time slot on CBS, Byron Allen's "Comics Unleashed," drew only 995,000 viewers with its first episode, The Daily Beast reported. Allen is the billionaire owner of the Allen Media Group.

MRK's avatar

CBS lied about losing money, but with Colbert they had to weigh the cost of his show against revenue generated by it.

Byron Allen is paying for the time slot. So CBS makes that money for the length of the contract. It's not what any normal person would call good business, but if you squint at the numbers in just the way billionaires like to, they can convince themselves they come out ahead here.

Miss Grundy's avatar

I don't recall Byron Allen being a good stand-up comic. He may be very rich now but he sure acts like an Uncle Tom.

Kay Ducky's avatar

Explained succinctly.

It's a reflecting Jen!'s avatar

I mean, hubby watches all the copganda, even Chicago PD, so his tastes are instantly suspect. I LOATHE that fucking show and I only hear it from the background.

Kay Ducky's avatar

I've said it before, the show is garbage. Just canned bits by sometimes okay guests to studio laughter. It makes money on a small scale, and it works somehow.

I've also said that Byron Allen has "Fuck You" money, and if CBS tries to blame him, the battle will be amazing.

It's a reflecting Jen!'s avatar

It makes money cause it is just a big billionaire vanity project. He pays CBS to get to have his show.

I do not think he makes anything off it.

MRK's avatar

I'm not sure if the ad revenue goes to him or CBS. It should be him, for this deal to make any financial sense on his part, but financial sense wasn't exactly a priority in any of this.

Miss Grundy's avatar

His company sells the ad time, so I believe he gets that revenue but he pays CBS-Paramount a fee to air the show.

It's a reflecting Jen!'s avatar

I do not think any of it goes to him at all. Hasn't he always paid for his show to be on? It's just a Look What I Can Do I think. Like other billionaires would buy a new jet or a fancy car or a villa in the south of france

Kay Ducky's avatar

I don't doubt the show is a vanity project, whether it makes money or not. He's been doing it for a long, long time now, so I think it does. Syndication works like a partnership. You buy a time-slot and the local or national network can charge ad rates based on what rating your show brings in. The next time ad contracts come up, you have the viewership numbers, and deals are hashed out. The syndicated show then gets an share of the revenue. In enough markets, nationally, it works out to a profit for all.

MRK's avatar

I don't know all the details. I would assume networks would lease time slots and forgo any revenue from those times - like with informercials, which obviously aren't interrupted by other ads. There's no way for producing Allen's shows to even possibly be a sensible business without that revenue. That doesn't mean he isn't a vain idiot pissing money away on shows no one will watch, but the shows are so cheaply produced they seem designed to still make a profit if they can take in any ad dollars at all.
