"I don't have to be perfect because I'm forgiven". . . Jesus is the cart blanche for sins to these people.

This is absolutely true, and is even enshrined in doctrine. It explains why fundamentalists do not see themselves as hypocrites. The idea is that we are all sinners - every one of us. But those who have a personal relationship with God and ask his forgiveness are cleansed, whereas the rest of us are not. Sin is built in; forgiveness is built in. The only thing that matters is the praying part.

This is also why people like Justin Harris can do unspeakably cruel, terrible things, and still be "right with God," and "courageous" and all the rest of it. It's all about mouthing the Jesusy words over and over, constantly. The rest is just business as usual.

To be clear, this is the same depraved wingnut welfare queen who locked up his own daughters under 24/7 electronic surveillance and subjected both them and all the kids in his Federally-funded Christianist nursery school to actual demon exorcisms. Setting aside the whole rape/ pedophilia/ demons/ exorcism components of the story, taxpayers have paid him millions to run what amounts to a religious indoctrination center for a cult. And this is the guy the Party of Personal Responsibility chooses to give an award to? Normally I at least try to be snarky in these comments, but this is simply beyond snark. Wars have been started for the mere rumor of far of less than what this monster actually did - admitted to doing, and they give him an award?!?...

I'd wager Rep. Harris also outlawed the sex education that could have prevented these poor teenage girls from needing an abortion in the first place.

And the law that he and the other scumbag sponsored would guarantee, if the in-loco-parentis rapist of a rehomed girl child became pregnant, that that rapist would have to give permission for the abortion. Such Christian! So courage!

Besides, the fuss may have died down by the time he has to pay his candidacy fees, and the grift can quietly continue. Duh.

Well, in fairness, the entire purpose of right-wing "family values" groups is to make a disgusting farce of courage and family values.
