Aside from the many, many egregious flaws in his arrest, one thing they never counted on was for him to be the landmark case against unjust deportation and denial of due process. They really hoped he would be one and done and the media attention wasn't what they had expected. Here's a fun tangential question to ask, if immigrants are committing lots and lots of crimes, why can't ICE just pick them up from jail after the regular police arrest them?
