Among Lincón's injuries was damage to his left vertebral artery, which supplies blood to the brain, placing him at risk of a stroke.

Despite a nurse expressing shock that he was still alive, the Army deemed his condition insufficiently severe to justify admission to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a key U.S. military facility in Germany.

Instead, he was dispatched to nearby barracks and instructed to book outpatient appointments on his own.

"I was just kind of on my own, at least it felt like that," said Lincón, a veteran who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

His experience was far from unique.

Maj. Stephen Ramsbottom, who required surgery to remove shrapnel from his head, reported waiting more than four months just to receive the results of his MRI scan.

"I’ve had to build my own case for everything," Ramsbottom told the AP. "It’s very frustrating."

Immediately following the deadly strike, soldiers equipped with tourniquets and basic first-aid training treated one another before using Google to navigate to the nearest hospital in Kuwait City, approximately 20 minutes away.

Medevac flights transported the most critically injured out of Kuwait within two days.

Lincón, who was positioned roughly 7 feet (2.1 meters) from the explosion, spent a week hospitalized in Kuwait to undergo jaw surgery.

Medical personnel informed him that the blast's force had ruptured his eardrum, temporarilyblinded him, and caused a traumatic brain injury.

Meanwhile, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rodney Bearman, who suffered shrapnel wounds from his face down to his legs, was sent alongside other troops to private homes of U.S. government employees. -- https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/iran-war-kuwait-us-soldiers-military-medical-attention-hegseth-b3061577.html

This from the people who "support the troops." I guess if those troops had had more "T," the shrapnel wouldn't have entered their hard bodies.

After the midterms, Pete's family should probably plan on spending more time with him. After all, his terrible advice to Dear Leader led to the Iran quagmire.

The US Navy got shellacked by the Japanese carriers at Pearl Harbor, despite the fact that the Royal Navy had done something similar, at smaller scale with much older equipment, to the Italians at Taranto in 1940. Also despite the fact that in the Navy's own large-scale wargames known as Fleet Problems, US carriers with biplanes shellacked Pearl Harbor multiple times in the late 1930s

In Vietnam the US discounted the French experience in a guerrilla war and assumed firepower and technology would be game-changers. Instead the "body count" doctrine employed failed utterly and turned the war into mass atrocity. In Europe the US Army pursued a modernized take on WW2 German doctrine, with more reliable tech to be sure. This worked in Operation Desert Storm but that seemed to give the USA instant "Victory Disease" and the US hasn't really responded effectively to a changing world in decades.

The USA is skilled at killing but not very skilled at war.

Billy Mitchell warned them… and Hegseth would have fired him.

It's more than that. I'd say most wars today are really political campaigns + violence, though I've heard some convincing arguments that a lot of wars have a religious element, too -- including Russia / Ukraine.

EyeQueue's avatar

And sometimes it's necessary, sadly. Horrible people can make it necessary.

Thank God for WWII that shut the Nazis down.

I wish we had one right now to take care of this Nazi filth definitively and save more lives in the long run.

EyeQueue's avatar

And too bad the "good Germans" didn't shut it down before the rest of us had to get involved and millions of people were killed.

Notorious J.I.M.'s avatar

War is also logistics. Drones are a complicating factor.

Anna-Elizabeth's avatar

But it's also achieving goals. And the USA doesn't seem to achieve anything beyond slaughter and trauma.

Diane's Less Hostile Username's avatar

That's the difference between War and Defense. We are the Department of War now.

EyeQueue's avatar

We didnt' "defend" during WWII. We went to WAR with the fucking Nazis and I'm glad we did.

ETA: And I wish we would all get up off our asses and do what needs to clearly be done right now to prevent another such war.

We know where this is leading. It should be stopped over the howls of the right wing and we should JUST DO IT!

Diane's Less Hostile Username's avatar

Wonk drama, where's ziggy!?

I posted below about how effective my migraine medication was this morning and then about the left side outrage over Obama using drone. As an aside, I mentioned that most of that outrage came from (I believe) lefty racists who were looking for a reason to criticize Obama. And of course, someone who I have NEVER seen before showed up to do EXACTLY that, post some copy pasta about Obama's drone program.

BUT THEN, the person had the nerve to bring up the medication I take for my migraines as if that was somehow related, and why? Because when someone shows themselves to be a racist, they ALWAYS show themselves to be sexist, gay-hating ableists.

Just venting. I reported the person's comments and blocked them.

Conspiracy theorist piece of shit that deserves knocked in the fucking mouth.

Diane's Less Hostile Username's avatar

The anti-Obama drone people are weird. Their beef is that the program was A. covert, and B. killed lots of civilians. That's like ALL of war and suddenly a Black man is in office and you're a peacenik? GTFOHWTBS.

Newt wants to make a big ditch with nukes does he? Who is going to be able to pilot and man the oil tankers that will then have to sail through Newt's Canal? Radiation poisoning is a huge dis-incentive to taking those job offers.

Looks like drone oil tankers will be docking at terminals 12 miles away from shore and piping their irradiated cargo to refineries staffed with robots.

They cannot even get the self driving car/taxi thing to work right and now they want us to trust them to create a technology that sails supertankers carrying three million barrels of crude oil through a radioactive hellscape. (Just a reminder: the Exxon Valdez only carried 1.25 million barrels of oil.)

Iran shooting missiles at targets in the Strait of Hormuz is already dangerous enough. The target area of the much narrower Newt's Canal will present no problem for people who can hit Tel Aviv from 700 miles away. Newt's Canal will be blocked with burning wrecks within several hours.

Long story short: Newt really is much stupider than I thought.

It would use up most of the nuclear stock as well, as if there needs to be any practical assessment of Newt's insanity.

convicted felon Peter Navarro, who now works in the White House again after serving a four-month sentence, goes on TV with the White House behind him to promote a new product that he'll personally profit from -- a book called "Why Fauci Must Rot in Prison"

These people talk about ‘culture war’ but it’s a pathetic euphemism for a stone-cold white supremacist, queer-phobic, patriarchal, anti-democratic, illegal, unconstitutional slow-rolling coup, and no strategic or societal cost is (in their estimation) too high for them to impose on us in their attempts to enact it.

Meanwhile in Oklahoma--Judge appointed by Pruneface Reagan smashed the wall between church and state and orders Oklahoma to finance a Jewish charter school with tax money.

Federal judge clears path for taxpayer-funded religious school in Oklahoma

The ruling in favor of Ben Gamla Jewish Charter School could open the floodgates for publicly funded religious indoctrination nationwide.

https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/federal-judge-clears-path-for-taxpayer

And of course this case was financed by...you guessed it...Christian Nationalists who now say that they're next in line to have Sucker Taxpayers finance their schools!

Just waiting for The Church Of $¢ientology to demand that their schools get Sucker Taxpayer to finance them too...

We're fucking doomed.

Diane's Less Hostile Username's avatar

This is incredibly disappointing since the state supreme court struck down this tax scam.

Note from the article--Gentner Drummond, who brought the case against the catholic organization that wanted public tax dollars, is NOT running for govorner as he lost his primary. The new MAGA piece of shit GQP is VERY pro-charter school and won't do anything to protect Oklahoman's from having their tax dollars diverted to a church.

As they are doing in the middle east, christofascist radicals are using the Jewish people as tools to advance their agenda.
