Well, Conservatives lack a certain kind of complexity. I heard once and I believe heartily-- having examined every comedic person I know, that really funny people have one parent who thought they were bad and one who thought they were good. So they're sincere at deprecating themselves-- it's part of them. (Along with a perhaps nihilistic confidence.) I don't see many conservatives who feel the urge to deprecate themselves. Nor can they see the funny side of conservatism. And that's one reason why they're not funny. It's a severe problem for them.
Those occasions were so rare but he was so good at it. I remember once when he described trying to explain that he didn't need a new helicopter, right at the start of his presidency. How he'd told them that at one time he hadn't had ANY helicopter so this one seemed really great.
We'd laugh fondly and affectionately if he'll walk away into those pools of light-- like Jimmy Durante even-- and pretend he's a wonderful Jimmy Durante and wave, "Bye Ted! Sorry we'll never again see you or see the corners of your mouth turn DOWN when you smile, unlike all other known mammals!"
For some reason I'm on a number of rightwing sucker lists. The most recent mailing was a fundraiser to support Cruz's proposed 28th Amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress.
Since he is such a strong supporter of term limits, I'm sure he isn't planning to run again.
Vaughn Meader was a comedian who did an album of JFK impressions. Asked if he had heard it, President Kennedy said he had and thought it was funny, although in his opinion Meader sounded most like Teddy.

Still prettier and funnier than Cancun Ted at his very best.
I do not want to join Twitter, but Patton Oswalt just might force me to.
Where is Chuck Barris with his gong when we need him most?

That's a good description of it! But unfortunately I bet it's not his descriiption of it.

What are you going to do?

Honestly it was hard to tell.
With a Roomba.
Same reason that I don't like Larry the Cable Guy. There's a line between humor and being mean, and he crosses it too often for my taste.

"I like Ted Cruz more than many of my Senate colleagues, and I hate Ted Cruz."
Al Franken
He ain’t wrong about that, but I’m SURE it’s for the wrong reason. Because…Ted Cruz.
KITTEH!
