Here's the real problem….Faux was allowed to report falsehoods for “entertainment purposes”. They, and all those other medias who then capitulated to Trump's version of facts, lost their viewers bc they had already convinced viewers that all news was fake. So NOW, even Faux viewers are convinced ALL news is fake. So they tuned it out. SANE viewers dumped them all!

Tbh, Tony D. was perfectly suited for an early morning program, but completely out of his depth with hard news.

Ta, Robyn. This is what happens when the richest people and corporations on earth don't pay their fair share of taxes.

It's not that I don't trust news outlets... It's that we don't have news outlets any more. Decades ago news was actually that. Over time news became just entertainment--the nastier, the better; the more biased, the more entertaining; outright lies scored well. News media turned into tabloid, while the tabloids turned into even worse tabloids. We used to have Walter Cronkite, who was trusted. We had David Brinkley/Chet Huntley, who was trusted. Edward R. Murrow, Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, et. all. Name one news guy (or, on FOX, blonde girl) who is trusted the way they were.

Not surprising when even the meanest intellect knows that The Wonkette "is the first draft of history".

How much do you want to bet that the average educational ability of the typical MAGA people taken as a group is about the 5th or 6th grade. These are not critical thinkers and anything beyond the typical USA Today condensing of the news is just too much mental work to hold their attention. I refer you to the famous words of the Ringo Kid in Blazing Saddles; "the salt of the earth, you know....morons."

Around here many, many of the Trump voters are college graduates who are wholly devoted to their money. If they ever had a shred of decency, they don't miss it.

The federal contracts Bezos has for Blue Origin and AWS far outweigh any losses he's incurring at WaPo.

The Ellisons probably have federal contracts view Oracle.

Edit: That's why Bezos is bowing down to Trump like the LA Times owner.

I think that bowing down is required in order to deliver the type of service that Bezos is delivering to trumpy.

What remains intensely amusing about this is their heavy reliance on Gulling. Can't afford food? Prices have never been lower! Dying of the flu? Avoiding vaccination extends your life! Choking on smog? The air has never been cleaner! Living in your car? Housing costs at historically low but wealth-creating levels! Lost everything to wildfires? A chance to begin again in the Off-World Colonies!

The Colonies are sounding better by the day.

"Kneeling At the Shrine" comes to mind.

I took my subscription to WaPo, gave some of my moneybucks to Wonkette, and the rest to Scientific American, who sounded the alarm against what a 2nd Turd term would do to science and have been fighting the good fight ever since.

I like to watch. Wait, wait, wait . . . uh . . .

Stan Duffner's avatar

There are only some many news watchers out there, when one network looses viewers another gains

Not anymore. It isn't a disgruntled CBS viewer going to NBC or ABC. They're going to foreign news outlets and independent media sources.

What we now refer to as the Mainstream Media, we'll soon be calling Legacy Media.

"Have you seen Tony Dokoupil?"

No I haven't.

Eeeeeeewwwwwww!!!111!!11!!!!1!

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Everything I know about Tony Dokoupil I know from the cringe promo video where he stood around in a shopping mall with his name on a sign and asked people to pronounce it.

tehbaddr's avatar

Oh that sounds fun and quirky. NOT!

All of these billionaire oligarchs need to start thinking long term. All of them are still going to be around after Pedo47 has waddled off the stage. What then? Are they going to shape their editorial stance to curry favor with whoever is in power next? What if that person actually has some integrity, ie, not J Divan? What then?

oscarphile's avatar

They'll shape their editorial stance to curry favor with whoever is more likely to preserve their billionaire oligarchy. As they always have. It's just more obvious these days because the right is so openly psychotic.

Remember the Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy? It's real, it's in charge, and it's actually a Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy!

Some radical righters have gone so far to the right that they may veer back left, Mobius strip style.

Perhaps best exemplified by the now famous quotation “Corporations are People my friend!”

You still aren’t, Bari. But that’s not supposed to be your job. You’re not test marketing a new variation of Pepsi. You’re supposed to be presenting the news.

The biggest problem narcissistic people have is that they will never be able to grasp just how much they actually suck.
