I'm sorry, I missed this entire article because I'm a girl so I was thinking about shopping instead.

I think the problem might be that all the retail places where women used to work have been destroyed by amazon. as soon as you can buy a car or lumber or a gun online, those male retail jobs will be gone too.

What if all those women decided to get into politics and run for office?

Oh, eff retail jobs anyway. Stand on your feet all day, look out for shoplifters, refold the sweaters on the shelves. None for me, thanks.

I think it's time I learn coding.

I've worked retail for almost 13 years at a home improvement store. This year, the store staffing model was "restructured" nationwide (fancy word for cutting staff). It affected more men in my store, but then, there are more men employed there. My job can be physically hard at times. There is a lot of lifting of heavy things, not to mention being on one's feet on concrete for 8 hours. My department is also outside, so we have to contend with the dirt, bugs, heat, cold and sometimes the rain. We only have one fulltimer that's male. I've seen a lot of employees come and go and us women have been the ones, for the most part, who have been the best employees. I can't explain why this is. Conventional wisdom would say that men would do this type of retail work better, but, at least in my experience, it just hasn't been the case.

Birds can have definite gender preferences, no doubt. I think our little dancer up there is a caique? They're generally pretty fun & friendly types as I last recall.

Fascinating. It's fascinating that these places that supposedly aren't doing well are immediately hiring almost as many men as the women they just fired, huh? I feel like this picture is way too "zoomed out" for me to be able to point to a specific cause, but fuck, "fascinating" is the last word I would use to describe it.

While it is true that hot chicks sell cars, hot chicks also get propositioned during test drives when alone with a potential sale. I'm working from a sample size of one in that I know a hot chick who used to sell cars and deal with creepers all the time. She got tired of this and no longer sells cars. I'm sure her expertise isn't unique though.

Back when I was married and I went with my wife to the mechanic (usually to give her some ride home or whatever) they would often start talking to me. I did my best to stare blankly and asked, "why are you talking to me, it's not my car?"

*Almost* the worst job I ever had was in the bird warehouse for a nat'l pet store chain, feeding and caring for at times, thousands of berbs. Rainbow lorikeets may be gorgeous, but they eat only 'nectar' (think baby formula with a little cream of wheat) that goes out in the same form in goes in =p Talk about a shit job - literally.
