The church became a state organ, but was allowed to maintain a fair degree of independence because completely eradicating it would have made Russia ungovernable. Similarly, traditional antisemitism was rebranded as a fight against "International Zionism". Which, unfortunately, gives these assclowns a point, but much less than the one they think.
