and the inevitable pendulum swing back to social conservatism after the free love/drugs 60's and and the vacuous hedonism of the 70's. Saint Ronnie rode the Christian Fundie wave for all it was worth

Trix, you left off Jimmy's best efforts post presidency- <a href="http://www.cartercenter.org..." target="_blank">" rel="nofollow noopener" title="http://www.cartercenter.org/health/index.html">http://www.cartercenter.org... The man has done so much to eliminate various third world diseases that absolutely devastate those areas- I'd put this far ahead of his Habitat for Humanity work (not that he hasn't done wonders there also too)

I was lucky enough to spend a week with him and his wife at a private event for the center a few years back and got time to talk to both of them (it was them, a bunch millionaires there for the auction and to hobnob, the secret service and a couple of us lowly A/V techs- zero security hassles because we were so isolated that if you were inside, you weren't a threat). One time a business associate and I were pounding beers in the club car of the NYC-DC Metroliner on our way back from an ultimately unsuccessful visit to New York, and my associate was telling me how great Reagan was, free markets, low taxes, yadda-yadda.

I said, "When a country wants to show the world its elections are free and fair, they don't invite <i>Reagan</i> to come and observe them," and my companion was enraged, confounded, befuddled. It was sweet.

Plus you gotta love the way Carter puts his thumb in the Israeli expansionists' eye every chance he gets. When you give them an (apparently interminable) "peace process," you got the moral authority to do that shit.
