Associating RFK Jr. with public toilet seats is actually a step up from my previous view of him, which shall go unspoken, but involved an infection somewhere.

There was a large avalanche yesterday near Tahoe, in the Castle Peak area just north of I-80/Donner Pass.

Current status is 8 dead, 1 missing. https://www.sierrasun.com/news/avalanche-update-8-dead-1-still-missing/

This sadly breaks the North American record for avalanche death, 7 died in the enormous April 1982 climax avalanche at the former Alpine Meadows Ski Resort (now the "Alpine" part of "Palisades Tahoe").

Worse, this appears to have been a *guided* backcountry trip. The conditions were in no way safe. Not sure what happened, but this doesn't look good.

Avalanche Centers are amongst the things Elmo's "DOGE" tried to kill and happily didn't. The Tahoe area is covered by the Sierra Avalanche Center, here: https://www.sierraavalanchecenter.org/ There's an Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center, as well as centers elsewhere. The Sierra Avalanche Center has an avalanche warning with a 4 out of 5 risk level - natural avalanches likely, skier-triggered avalanches very likely.

Christian nationalist pastor Doug Wilson, who has argued that wives should submit to their husbands, women should be denied the vote and Christian enslavers were on “firm scriptural ground,” led a worship service at the Pentagon this week at the invitation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

An image of Hegseth praying with the self-described “paleo-Confederate,” posted by the Defense Department on social media, drew rebukes from critics.

“Doug Wilson routinely mocks the pope and the Catholic Church,” the Catholic writer and Democratic operative Christopher Hale wrote on X. “It’s beyond shameful that [Hegseth] allowed him to lead taxpayer-funded anti-Catholic worship services.”

The Pentagon defended Wilson’s appearance.

“Secretary Hegseth, along with millions of Americans, is a proud Christian and was glad to welcome Pastor Wilson to the Pentagon yesterday,” spokeswoman Kingsley Wilson said in a statement.

In a 15-minute sermon Tuesday, Wilson said Hegseth had invited him to speak. Wilson said they were praying for “a black swan revival,” or another great awakening of Christianity in the United States.

“God can do what he likes — and as we should know by now, what He likes to do is to take the most unlikely materials and do something glorious with it,” Wilson told an auditorium of military personnel. “Take a prayer meeting at the Pentagon for a possible example. Many stranger things have happened.”

Wilson co-founded the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches, Hegseth’s denomination, and leads its flagship Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho. Women in CREC are barred from leadership positions.

Not a "lone wolf". Not a 'librul. Not violent Antifa. This is a shooting that was down the road from me, as it were, in RI in Monday.

"NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Nearly two years to the day before Robert Dorgan opened fire on his family during a high school hockey game in Pawtucket, one of his sons tried to burn down a Black Pentecostal church near his home.

Kevin Colantonio, 37, who is now serving time in a federal prison in Texas, had written notebooks full of violent, racist comments — “hunt them down, gun everyone down who isn’t white” — before trying to light the Shiloh Gospel Temple on fire with a Bic lighter and $10 worth of gasoline in February 2024.

Colantonio’s father, who had neo-Nazi tattoos on his right bicep, also shared white nationalist and conspiracy posts on X, bragged about his firearms, and said he supported “white power.”

Dorgan had three sons and three daughters from different relationships. On Monday, the family had gone to watch the youngest son play in a high school hockey game at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket. Dorgan sat apart from them in the stands at first but soon moved down to where they were sitting near the front, behind the players’ bench.

Dorgan shot and killed his ex-wife, Rhonda Dorgan, and his older son, Aidan Dorgan, and critically wounded his in-laws and a family friend before bystanders grabbed his gun. Dorgan drew a second gun and turned it on himself."

"North Providence Police Chief Alfredo Ruggiero Jr. confirmed on Wednesday that Dorgan was Colantonio’s biological father."

The story gets even more crazy, so I'll leave it there. And go back to the prepping of the fuds for supper, watch some more MSNBC about Trump's voter suppression, and look at some cat pics for a few minutes. (Also too, it's much too early to talk about the GUNS.)

A group in Colorado has proposed a new election map that could give Democrats a 7-1 advantage in the House of Representatives, according to a Denver Post report.

Colorado's current Congressional delegation includes four Democrats and four Republicans. The proposed map could make three Republican-leaning districts currently occupied by Reps. Gabe Evans (R-CO), Jeff Hurd (R-CO), and Jeff Crank (R-CO) are more competitive for Democrats.

What makes the Colorado plan different from other redistricting proposals is that it would leave Rep. Lauren Boebert's (R-CO) district as a Republican stronghold, according to the report. Other plans that have been introduced sought to eliminate Republican-held seats.

“No one wanted to have to take this action — independent redistricting is the ideal,” said Curtis Hubbard, a spokesperson for Coloradans for a Level Playing Field, the group proposing the new map. “But with Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans actively working to rig congressional elections, resulting in the potential gain of up to 27 seats in Congress, Colorado must join other states in countering this unprecedented power grab.”

"Iran said it plans to hold joint naval drills with Russia on Thursday, raising the risk of an unintended escalation in the region amid a US military build-up intended to put pressure on Tehran over its nuclear programme, according to experts who spoke to The National.

Iran’s state news agency Irna quoted a Russian presidential official as saying that Chinese warships were also headed to the region to take part in the three countries’ annual Maritime Security Belt exercises in the Strait of Hormuz. It is not known if Chinese ships will be involved in Thursday’s exercises.

US website Axios reported on Wednesday that the Trump administration is closer to a major war in the Middle East than most Americans realise. “It could begin very soon,” it said, quoting sources."

Lactose intolerance (the inability to digest milk and milk products) was actually the norm throughout human history. Infants naturally stop producing lactase, the enzyme that breaks down lactose (milk sugar) as they grow and are weaned off their mothers’ milk.

The ability to continue producing lactase well into adulthood is the result of mutations that have spread through pastoral populations after the domestication of cows and goats. The more populations began to depend on milk from other mammals as a source of calories, more tolerant of lactose they became. It’s not a sign superior genes. Those of us who can digest milk are the real mutants.

Don Lemon is no stranger to vitriol from the Trump administration. The former CNN anchor says he got used to it during the president’s first term.

But he never thought he would get arrested over his work, which is what happened on Jan. 29. Federal authorities detained the independent journalist in Los Angeles less than two weeks after he entered a church in Minnesota with protesters who were demonstrating against the Trump administration’s immigration policies. (Independent journalist Georgia Fort was also arrested after covering the protest.)

Lemon pleaded not guilty in federal court on Friday to two felony charges that he conspired to violate religious freedoms and interfered with religious activities at a house of worship. He says he was covering the protest and that the charges against him are an attempt to chill the press. “This story is way bigger than me,” he says. “The First Amendment is the bedrock of our democracy.” The Justice Department declined to comment.

Since his arrest, Lemon has experienced a wave of support. He has gained more than 300,000 new followers on Instagram and 140,000 new subscribers on YouTube, while his Substack subscriptions have increased 73 percent. “I would like to have as many people watch or listen or follow as possible, but at the end of the day for me, it’s really about informing the American people,” Lemon says. I recently spoke with Lemon. [Interview follows]
