Frank Wilhoit has nailed conservatism. See Wikipedia. It's all about creating privilege for some at the expense of "the others". Carl Schmitt went on about this at logorrheic length, just like his partner in crime Heidegger, while both evaded the hangman's noose. But the main practical effect of conservatism is to CREATE crime. And boy do they love it. Immiseration of vast numbers of humans leads them to violate "laws" just to survive. Laws enforced by cops, prosecutors, judges and prison administrators and all their myriad of "helpers": the bureaucrats, the politicians, the "thought leaders" at conservative propaganda mills, university programs in "criminal justice" like the one where Kohberger was doing "research". It's all a gigantic, expensive, pointless grift. It's a jobs program for people willing to torment their fellow creatures. It is the essence of evil.

This is Wilhoit's Law:

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

The Wikipedia article for Francis Wilhoit (not the author of Wilhoit's Law) has the link to where this was originally posted, on the blog "Crooked Timber". Here's that link:

i used to have a "nuke the gay whales for christ" t-shirt many years back. also too, one that said "nuclear war? there goes my career!"

it was a simpler world then. reagan had a nuclear (?) program called "dense-pack", which is how we referred to the first-years in law school. ah, youth.

Damned small list today.

"...if you can’t figure out how to confirm people aren’t common petty criminal farebeaters and actually paid their fare"

SF MUNI announced back in September that their charming mobile fare app would be changing in "a few days" and one wouldn't be able to use tickets already bought on the app, so hurry up and ride.

No one heard anything else for months, then suddenly new app, which I'm guessing was a budgetary decision, because new app sucks and is so butt-ugly that I just don't even want to take MUNI anymore because I don't want to have to look at the new butt-ugly app.

My MUNI "app" was my student bus pass. Most drivers wouldn't even punch it, and with onward or return transfers, I could get anywhere I wanted and back home for next to nothing. Those were the days.

Lived on Collingwood, the old 8 Market bus stopped a few steps from the door and from there, the whole City was at my feet! Now I can't even afford to visit.

Lodging prices are unusually low right now. Everyone's been scared off by trans-phobic right-wingers thousands of miles away explaining how horrible the city is.

Collingwood is such a lovely street!

My local bus system is supposed to get those tap fares so people can board at the front or the back. But what keeps people entering the back from just not tapping?

Just make the buses free, they'd move much faster and and save the MTA money in the long run. Many people who use the buses are disabled or students. I ride the bus everyday and almost no one swipes or taps (I do, free transfer from the subway, like many.) Fucking OMNY, I still use an old fashioned metro card. I refuse to use OMNY till it's forced on me. OMNY is a payment system where you use your phone and tap it. Seems to be the issue in the story, when these MTA cops stop people the system doesn't work, their scanners don't work (how much did the non-working scanners cost, more waste.) It's a huge waste of money and time that they are even trying to stop bus fare evaders because it's like putting your finger over one hole of a colander and hoping water will stay in it. FREE BUSES NOW!

Considering how much officers get paid, I can't imagine this bizarre program to stop moochers could possibly be saving taxpayer dollars.

"No they don’t care what a baby’s best interest is. How do they know what a baby’s best interest is."

If these Christofascists were asked to paint pictures of a baby, it would go a long way to rescuing early Renaissance depictions of babies because the results would be so much worse in terms of having no idea in the least of what babies look like or do or why they even exist.

Speaking of Crimes: If any of you remember the "Be Gay Do Crime" meme, there's a similar Irish-tuned version of it: "Be Gé Do Crimes". "Gé" is the Irish for goose and I wish I could share the image that most usually associated with "Be Gé Do Crimes". It's a cute little goose holding a rainbow-handled knife in its beak. Since I can't share the image here, I'll share a link to a Reddit w/an image from Tumblr.
