"Putin's not a good guy. At the same time, that's up to the Russian people."
Well, Trump isn't a good guy, either. So I guess, according to Senator Mullin, that it is up to the American people to remove Trump from office at this time.
I've been skeptical of the rationales of this war (of all wars, when you come to it) since the beginning. I head a Communist (big C commie) making the observation that all the supporting parties are "oligarchies" when you come down to it, and what's at stake is not what's best for the Ukrainians themselves, but what's in it for the oligarchs.
While that's a no-brainer, to claim the US didn't at least have an interest in pulling Ukraine into a NATO "sphere" and that Russia had an equal interest in keeping it in their own economic sphere, when we confuse the issue with talk of "freedom" or --- for the Russians -- of "security" either way the only losers are the Ukrainians: the people dying on both sides of the conflict.
Someone needs to start asking the minions of the proven rapist, convicted felon and hater of our troops, cops and Constitution Ol' Man Trump what mineral resources they are expecting Russia to turn over to the United States as part of any peace deal.
"WITKOFF: The war didn't need to happen. It was provoked. It doesn't necessarily mean it was provoked by the Russians. There were all kinds of conversations back then about Ukraine joining NATO. The president has spoken about this. That didn't need to happen. It basically became a threat to the Russians."
I totally understand this point of view. Why, just the last summer, my neighbor broached the idea of removing a tree on our property line that gave my house shade. There were all kinds of conversations. This didn't need to happen, but because they continue to say they were thinking of cutting down that tree, I burned their house down.
Friedrich Merz, likely to be Germany's next Chancellor, recently made some extremely blunt remarks, including the need to "strengthen Europe as quickly as possible, so that we achieve independence from the U.S.," since the current U.S. Administration was evidently not going to do shit to uphold its end of the alliance. He's also been very staunch backing up Ukraine, which includes not falling for Trump/Putin's bullshit about a peace deal made to their liking.
It's just a fact. Sovereign nations will make up false accusations of "invasion" to cover up when they've been horny, drunken sluts. Guys--I mean, invading powers--have to protect themselves from such blatant lies by joining together with other aggressors. Or wannabe aggressors, like unfuckable incels who happen to inhabit the West Wing (Stephen Miller) or DOJ or OMB (Emil Bove, Russell Vought, et al., ad nauseam).
Canada? Greenland? Are you listening? Don't get any ideas.
Hitler at least tried to fake up a justification for that one. They killed some Polish soldiers, put them in German uniforms in a German checkpoint, and, viola, provocation for war.
There are many famous provocations in history that our administration can point to in order to illustrate how and why Ukraine provoked poor Russia into attacking first.
Alas for poor Napoleon Boanaparte! Look at how everyone provoked him into invading their countries! If only Spain and Italy had abandoned their own homegrown wines and instead imported more French product all those messy invasions and atrocities could have been avoided.
Who can forget how the dastardly Carthaginians, after negotiating several treaties which rewarded the Roman Republic with favorable benefits then turned around and, very criminally, insisted upon continuing to breathe fresh air? So provocative! It is no wonder the outraged Romans had to invade once again and put a stop to the Carthaginian menace to the Roman fresh air supply! There is only so much air and the Romans had to guard it against sneaky, snake-in-the-grass Carthage! You better believe the Romans knew a thing or two about getting people to stop breathing. Just ask a certain Judean rabble rouser who was crucified in Jerusalem in 33 CE. (Don't worry, supposedly he got better.)
Less than a century ago Adolf Hitler had to invade Russia because the commies had actually had the fucking nerve to sign a "non-aggression pact" with Hitler's envoys! Who the fuck did those commies think they were dealing with? How very dare they assume they had the status and standing to tell Hitler who and what and where he could go around practicing non-aggression with? How very dare they tell Hitler where and what to do!!!!! Obviously Hitler had no choice in the matter, he had to teach them a lesson.
Attila the Hun invaded eastern Europe, Gaul (France) and Italy for all the good reasons and every time he did that thing he taught everyone an important lesson about annoying Attila The Hun! That lesson? DON'T FUCK WITH ATTILA THE HUN! How did people fuck with Attila? BY STANDING STILL AND LETTING HIM INVADE THEIR COUNTRIES! Attila hated when people stood around breathing Attila's air and then resisting his orders to stop doing that.
After Russia’s initial push to capture Kyiv in three days failed, Ukraine did attempt negotiations with Russia.
An agreement was never reached to end the war.
“There have been several rounds of peace talks to halt the Russian invasion of Ukraine (2022–present) and end the Russo-Ukrainian War (2014–present). The first meeting was held four days after the start of the invasion, on 28 February 2022, in Belarus. It concluded without result.[1] A second and third round of talks took place on 3 and 7 March 2022[2][3] on the Belarus–Ukraine border.[4] [5] A fourth and fifth round of talks were held on 10 and 14 March in Antalya, Turkey.[6][7]
The negotiations in Turkey produced the Istanbul Communiqué. It proposed that Ukraine end its plans to eventually join NATO, have limits placed on its military, and would have obliged Western countries to help Ukraine in case of aggression against it. The talks almost reached agreement, with both sides considering "far-reaching concessions", but stopped in May 2022, due to several factors, including the Bucha massacre.”
Edit: If I can remember negotiations happened in the early days of the war, why can’t our journalists? It would highlight the lies Trump is telling about Ukraine’s failure to negotiate.
I know, right? It's just infuriating. Zelenskyy ran for President and won on a platform of finalizing one of the Minsk accords, even.
But people do love their Manichean dualism, and don't mind doing a 180 when it suits what they think of as their "team."
We also forget that Zelenskyy made noises about accepting the Turkish agreement, until Boris Johnson swung by. Who knows what that conversation was about, but that was the end of that.
Empire is a filthy business. Ukraine being stuck next to one, while trusting in another, has gone about as poorly as it could have.
You mean, what does Putin have on Trump that everyone doesn't already have on Trump? What could possibly still be secret, that isn't on open display? Or that Trump's supporters would care about were it disclosed?
I did my own research, as I am always urged to do.
These Republicans are assholes. Fuck 'em.

At least us Okies get straight to the point.
Ta, MM. I'm so glad this is your job and not mine.

And either way, Ukrainians are screwed.
NATO has been around for 76 years. During that time it has never attacked Russia or the failed state formally known as the Soviet Union.
So how is it a threat to Russia? And why should that even be a concern for us?

Who could blame me for that????
Please tell me you are Rand Paul’s neighbor.

All these weirdos are basically saying "Ukraine was asking for it" and "why was Ukraine wearing that skimpy outfit?"
Same old abuser language that they're all so very fond of.
They provoked Russia with that sexy crimea they kept showing them
If you want to draw a comparison, Germany invading Poland in 1939 is a lot closer.
Hitler at least tried to fake up a justification for that one. They killed some Polish soldiers, put them in German uniforms in a German checkpoint, and, viola, provocation for war.

They kept all that liebensraum to themselves which naturally the fittest nation should take for its survival and all those Aryan babies.
Also, too, this one version of Russian alternative history aka "New Chronology" is all you need to know ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4LdM0CUYUA
My eye started twitching. I had to quit. He was much too kind to the “New Chronology”.
Oh, I know. I couldn't find the video I was looking for where a historian tears the whole thing apart and calls it out for what it is.

I have no idea what Putin has on Trump but it's clearly working.
Nothing. its just that Trump idolizes Putin and wants the USA to be just like Russia
You mean, what does Putin have on Trump that everyone doesn't already have on Trump? What could possibly still be secret, that isn't on open display? Or that Trump's supporters would care about were it disclosed?
Putin doesn’t need to have anything on Trump. Trump’s sucking up to Putin is Trump’s decision.
Well he can’t resist.. Putin shirtless and all. Does vlad spank him with a magazine in the private boy talk? Just asking questions.
Krasnov?
