Just another data point. I use Chrome / Vista / a seven year old desktop PC. Generally, things run, videos, load, etc. Occasionally, I get Flash crashes, which I assume are due to badly constructed applets (or whatever you call downloaded Flash objects) in ads.
The one thing that seems to be attributable to the host is that sometimes (once or twice a week?) there will be a period during which the server just stops responding. I'm trying to take this as a subtle hint that I should go do something in meatspace for a while.
If you follow this on many sites, you'll encounter misogynistic, hate-filled screeds against the SOS and the Obama administration. A lot of heat, light -- not so much.
