Joey F Biden is literally running side to side, shaking hands and hugging kids, and being awesome! Secret service body man is jogging to keep up. The people's champ, that guy. They finally shoved him back in the limo because the parade is finally over.

Yeah! Preach it, Matt! As long as the concept of collective action eludes the right, I'm happy.

Just don't let them look inside that Saul Alinsky book.

That's the downside of being an atheist: you don't have a prayer.

POTUS & FLOTUS just got out of the limo and are walking down Pennsylvania Ave. Lots of cheering, for such a tyrant.

Still, the Secret Service are going to bust their Maalox budget.

I know! I was especially touched that he remembered to ask after my sick cat and reminded me about that beer we're having next week. What a multitasker!

Two party, first past the post electoral systems absolutely suck. It's pretty much an insurpassable barrier for entry for third parties, which means that a majority of the country is not able to vote for a candidate whose views closely match their own, only the one who's least bad. First past the post is even worse still with more than two parties - just look at the drastic misrepresentation of the vote in the composition of the UK parliament after the 1997 and 2001 elections (2001 was the worst - 40.7% of the vote translating to 62.7% of the seats for Labour... I was still a Blair supporter at that point but WTF?)

Which is why I've always supported some kind of proportional representation. For the US, Single Transferrable Vote electing all the Representatives for a State from the same list would seem to me to work well in the House. Would eliminate the gerrymander from national politics, too, which would be cool. Also, given the Priebus plan to steal all future elections by diluting the electoral votes of Presidentially blue states, we could totally do with eliminating the EC for Presidential elections and going with a national popular vote.

Of course, this is a political nonstarter, precisely because it would throw the doors open for minor parties, which is clearly against the interests of the two main parties, no matter how much it's in the interest of the people. Wrong lizard theory stinks.

Just noticed the flag at half-mast on the Capitol building -- anyone got any idea what that's about, or is the GOP pranking the inauguration?
