To enforce the ban they will need people on the inside of the price gouging corporate HQs to come forward and rat their bosses out, hand over incriminating documents and go on the record to testify.
The guys at the top of the HQ pyramid are powerfully motivated to NOT do that.
But the clerks, executive assistants, office support staff, middle managers and even the maintenance crew will be the low hanging fruit that can be easily picked if motivated by a bounty or reward system. That would be a good use of my tax money.
Or they might just snitch on their bosses just because "Those guys? Those guys are assholes! I'd rat them out just to fuck them up. They suck."
We know that price gouging is going on because these large conglomerates are reporting record profits. It comes down to a matter of auditing then and fining them for excess profits. It's a lot of extra work and regulatory oversight but it has been done before during World War II looking into war profiteering.
I've noticed that the right uses "communism" globally as anything they don't like, but more specifically, as anyone with more power than they have making them do something they don't particularly feel like doing.
Seat belts? Communism.
Masks? Communism.
Vaccines? EXTRA SUPER communism.
Companies price gouging? Communism.
Facebook fact checkers? Communism.
Fascism? Communism.
If they're being made to do something they dislike only a LITTLE bit, it's socialism.
You want lower your food bills and enjoy a better, healthier diet? Learn how to shop, learn how to cook, and bake, learn how to jar and freeze produce in season. Buy only whole foods and avoid convenience foods.
The usual suspects are jumping up and down like Homer Simpson wanting to get to a chili cookoff over Harris' approach of actually holding the feet of greedy corporations to the fire.
Republicans: Those guys make a lot of campaign contributions. So. you see, the fact that they are ripping you off is offset by the fact that we get a cut!
What I heard was the first large rally was canceled back when one of the hurricanes was coming so they made an invitation only event to make up for it...
Banning price-gouging sounds good, and it's good messaging. To actually accomplish anything the large food industry mega-corporations need to be broken up in anti-trust measures. They have clearly collaborated with one another to artificially inflate prices, something that would have been more difficult if more than a hand-full of companies controlled the food supply.
Look I'm all in, and of course there's a dramatic difference between the two parties. However, if I'm being honest the economic proposals presented in this speech are quite tepid in my opinion.
$25,000 in down payment assistance for first-time home buyers, a new $6,000 tax credit for parents with a child in the first year of life, and also expand the earned income tax credit, known as the EITC, to offer frontline workers without dependent children a tax reduction of up to $1,500. That all sounds like strong help for people.
Gotta start somewhere. Also there is the problem that under Murc's Law, only Democrats are held to promises, and voters seem to only have memory for those. So Democrats need to aim towards the achievable, unfortunately.
He was on Nicolle Wallace and Chris Hayes. Hayes opined that maybe Hawley’s stunt at the state fair seemed like the desperate kind of thing one might do if he saw some bad internal polling. Hawley seems scared to do any televised debates.

The only way to counter this is for a certain Florida dotard to visit a grocery store for a photo op.
There he will cruise the aisles in his golf cart pointing at food items he likes and putting them in a basket on the seat next to him.
His golf cart will break down in the aisle where they keep the canned hams.
Fox tomorrow: HERE'S WHY AFFORDABLE FOOD IS BAD FOR YOU.

Tend a garden.
Not cause you'll feed your famblee,
but cause you'll appreciate FOOD !
Republicans: FOOD IS TOO EXPENSIVE! IT'S THE DEMOCRATS' FAULT! FIX IT!
Democrats: Okay. Here's a plan to regulate the people who are gouging you on food.
Republicans: No not like that
The usual suspects are jumping up and down like Homer Simpson wanting to get to a chili cookoff over Harris' approach of actually holding the feet of greedy corporations to the fire.
Liked specifically for your use of metaphor.
Republicans: Those guys make a lot of campaign contributions. So. you see, the fact that they are ripping you off is offset by the fact that we get a cut!
tuning in to watch this now. that's a tiny crowd there. does NC not like her?
Hurricane restricted...
? There's no hurricane in NC, esp not in Raleigh
There was when it was first announced. Due to the events of the tropical storm, security issues arose and required a smaller crowd by invitation only.
What I heard was the first large rally was canceled back when one of the hurricanes was coming so they made an invitation only event to make up for it...
OT-Nancy Mace say she can basically say Kamala any way she wants. Next time anybody sees her please tell her I say Nancy like this, Keisha.
Or she could say "Madame Vice President."
Anything you say, Congresswoman Mah-KAY.
Nank-why might suffice.
I'm just a simple old guy. Seen some shit. Or two. Hmm.
To me, I just ask why do we even have a government?
To protect the people from sickness, war, hunger, disasters, and even each other at times?
Or for rich people to get even richer?
Too simple? Sorry.

Just keep on rallying and sell that great policy!

I want a pony!
So, have a kid and then use the 6 grand to buy a pony. Problem solved!
Then, sell the kid to pay for feed for the horse.
My pony's name is Universal Healthcare.
That's no pony, that's a unicorn!
Agreed

I think SethTriggs has called it!

I am good with that.
I know, guess I'm just a radical leftist who wants all the billionaires wallets on a pike.
Yesssss!!! Tax those fuckwads fuckwads and hopefully limit their maniacal determination or at least ability to damage & destroy America for Americans
And the churches...someday....
The Venn diagram of "rich grifters who need serious taxing" and "churches" ... has way more overlap than any citizen should feel comfortable with.
Go to Kentucky, Ohio and Florida with the message delivered today Madame Vice President. Kick the shit out of em’ every damn where. Missouri? Hmmmm
I like the guy who’s running against Hawley. Don’t know if he has a chance in hell but I wish.
All anyone really needs to know about him is that he's running against Hawley, n'est ce pas?
He was on Nicolle Wallace and Chris Hayes. Hayes opined that maybe Hawley’s stunt at the state fair seemed like the desperate kind of thing one might do if he saw some bad internal polling. Hawley seems scared to do any televised debates.
We know how easily Hawley scares don't we?
