I find it extremely odd that no one has bothered to ask Trump what he thinks about Gaza.

I googled “Trump Gaza” and a bunch of articles about Biden losing the youth vote because of Gaza come up. Not a whole lot of ink on Trump promising to ban refugees from Gaza.

So the NYT apparently saying that the yoots are abandoning Biden because Gaza? Um, because the PAB is going to be a better friend of the Palestinians? Help me out with the reasoning here.

LegalCat's avatar

I strongly doubt if it's a matter of thinking Trump would be better. I think it's more "I cannot, will not sully my perfect purity score by voting for someone who has done something I disapprove of. If that decision gets Trump elected, that's Biden's fault for making it impossible for me to vote for him."

Our_Man_In_Redneckistan's avatar

Thesaurus Wrecks's avatar

One sided polling questions get one sided results. I haven’t seen ONE poll asking the yoots what they think of PAB’s stance on Gaza

Dr. Rrrrrobotnik's avatar

Speaking of which, that Harvard poll that basically said that most 18-24's think Jews are "oppressors" was some bullshit meant to stir up controversy. The poll question didn't allow for a "I don't know" or any kind of nuance or distinction between Jews, Israelis, or the Israeli government.

ciaobella's avatar

Yep. If I were asked, "Do you approve of Biden's position on the Gaza war, yes or no?" I would have to say, "no." If they ask, "Are you still planning to vote for him in 2024?" I would say, "You better fucking believe it."

Dorothea is a Democrat's avatar

There is no reasoning. They found a few angry, young people to express a not very well thought position and are acting as if those people both speak for most youth and won't reconsider their position in the context of everything else when the time to vote is actually upon them.

Vagenda and Peeara's avatar

They just had a kid on CNN who said "I'm not sure why young people think Trump is going to be the better choice to protect Palestinians."

I genuinely can't figure out why ANYONE would think Trump would be better on ANY issue.

Dr. Rrrrrobotnik's avatar

I doubt any of them with a functioning brain do. It's more a statement of non-support of Biden's position rather than support of Trump. To take that and assume that they'd then go vote for Trump is I think overstating the message.

Vagenda and Peeara's avatar

I've heard kids say "I'm not voting for Biden because he's letting Palestinians get killed."

I think it's more a matter of they'll just stay home, because Biden isn't doing what they want him to do on EVERY issue that's important to them. They don't get that it's basically a binary choice - evil or not evil. Staying home puts you on the evil side.

Gosh, Mark, you sound so much like clueless me from back in the day that I’m almost embarrassed about my old self. For starters, racism, hate, etc. are vile expressions of human nature, mercifully protected by our Constitution, as are our righteous positions. Folks can say what they wish, be it ever so loathsome. However, they are not protected in any way from the political , financial or societal consequences that may result.

And yes, those elected to public office often lose sight of the primary objective and fall prey to the temptations of elected office, voting at times for the ‘dark side’. When I see it, I’m on their ass like white on rice, as I stay engaged & nag their sorry asses. I do not, however, endanger the future of our nation by trying to pay back the insufficiently liberal pols by installing a psychopath in the WH. Grow up, or reap the whirlwind.

Peter Doocy: Why does the White House refuse to acknowledge Biden's age as a factor ahead of the election?

Press Sec AB: First of all, the president has a record that speaks for itself, with economic growth, record low unemployment, lower deficits and inflation under control. President Biden would not be running for reelection if his age impacted his ability to continue serving the American people. Every American, including journalists, should take into account the age and record of every person running for president, not just Joe Biden's.

Mr. Minky's avatar
