They're having hissy fits because they're about to get shut out of a border deal and become even more irrelevant. One asshole is going on right now about how we got shut out of the negotiations wah wah wah.
The Republican's Border Crisis™ is so dire that Mayorkas must be imediately impeached, but NOT so dire that the bipartisan border bill should be passed. Do I have that right?
Re (R) perpetual go-to witnesses: families of OD/murder victims. Their stories are always compelling, their grief profound and palpable…but their presence misses a couple of points. If you die from fentanyl, odds are you’re already taking drugs off-the-books, which is risky business & certainly not the fault of migrants. Also, have watched enough Investigation/Discovery to know that - aside from MS-13 - people are raped and murdered by policemen, pastors, high school coaches, business execs and all manner of home-grown gangbangers so, again, murders do not equate with migration.
Actually, it's Republican governors who can now be counted on to be the serious people. Slate had a wonderful article about how those 25 guvs, like very serious Noem and Stitt, have pretty seriously elected Gregg Abbott the new President of the Confederacy 'cause he's breaking up the "compact" that was never really meant to form a permanent Union anyway! Go, Rebs!! ✊
Don't feel like scrolling but was reading in bed earlier in this thread a thing a Wonker non-commented on re: Garland now going after a Dem BLM member of Congress instead of the eleventy hundred MAGA insurrectionist scum that are walking free in the halls of Congress.
That poster speculated that he may have some MAGA sympathies, and now I'm starting to think that my own self.
Starting with how he shrugged at the white nationalist threat during the Timothy McVeigh fiasco, and refused to acknowledge it and wanted to merely paint him as a "lone wolf." He refused to acknowledge that *per his own fucking agency* even back then they labeled domestic terrorism as the biggest threat to this country (and then 9/11 happened *sigh*).
Domestic (white nationalist) terror remains the biggest threat to this country.
And apparently (I just read this on MSNBC) Idaho or some other red state is now trying to define "domestic terrorism" as "needing a foreign actor" to be considered "domestic terrorism."
MAKE IT FUCKING MAKE SENSE! Much of this country (thanks, reactionary centrists, who punch left while aligning and sympathizing with the right) is about to hand it over to these MAGAt chuds b/c they find *their* authoritarian rule preferable to the innate and overwhelming decency of the fucking Dems.
I think putting Garland in as AG is one of the biggest mistakes Biden has made. Garland has made no effort to address years of corruption in the Trump administration or even look at the obstruction Mueller noted in his investigation into ties between Russia and the Trump campaign. Reports from the New York Times and Washington Post show he intentionally blocked investigations his staff recommended into leaders of the insurrection. There is little Jack Smith has done that Garland could not have done at least a year earlier, relieving this time crunch now shortly before an election. Garland has not even investigated the fake electors despite this being exactly what the DOJ should be doing. Crimes that cross multiple state lines with several common players and goals. Something he has the resources and authority to handle but individual states have serious limitations in pursuing.
In fact the Michigan AG sent her evidence and a request the DOJ take over in December 2021. But after hearing nothing for a year, resumed her work in January 2023. And within a few months had indictments. But they were limited to people involved only in Michigan. Fani Willis spread a little wider net but still could only indict people directly involved in crimes occurring in Georgia. Although she had the advantage of a taped phone call by Trump and pals to reach outside of Georgia.
So in the absence of federal charges people involved in this scam in some other states may escape accountability entirely. As I have said since the first time Garland rolled out his bullshit about going where the evidence leads, if you do not aggressively seek out evidence you will go nowhere. And from the days of the 1/6 committee, it was obvious Garland was not doing anything aggressively. If anything at all other than weak charges against most of the foot soldiers on 1/6. Which is not how you get to the top people. Just like interviewing a private in the army is not going to lead you to the general plotting a coup. "Look, all I know is my sergeant told us to occupy this building."
Apparently she used campaign funds to pay for security, which is allowed, but hired her husband to provide the services, which always looks suspicious to regulatory agencies.
File under shit that never happens to white republican women. People forget that she is frequently subject to death threats from the Magoons, she may have good reasons to trust him over some other people. It's allowed or it isn't.
Ta, Evan, but there is no way I'm watching that hearing now. I just finished a great dinner, and I do not want to ruin my digestion.

Treasoning out loud right out in the open. These people are irredeemable garbage fires.

yeppers
At least nixon and reagan kept their treasoning hushed up until after their respective wins.
Goldman gives lawyers a good name.
"impeachment is the only tool available"
sure. when you're a bunch of obstructionist losers who are too lazy and afraid to actually govern or even form an own opinion.
The Republicans will impeach everyone all the time now to make Trump feel better.
That’s exactly what it seems like.
In the future, everyone will be impeached for 15 minutes.
and to avoid governing.

Weirdest part is, a not insignificant chunk of the population hope to get roles as extras in Bannon’s forthcoming production, “Antietam Redux”.
Clown car congress.

Watching it unfold in real time is fucking anguish.

Jesus. I didn't even know of all of this.
What the *fuck* is this guy's major malfunction? :(
imho, Garland was a ‘thank you’ to Obama, a ‘fuck you’ to McConnell and a huge troll of (R)s in general - also, a colossal error.
bad news, irony is officially dead
"Marjorie Taylor Greene is talking about the importance of honesty at the Mayorkas hearing."

I repeat myself: fuck this timeline.
b. Greek Lit d. MAGA era
Border crisis? Impeachment?
Must be GOP primary fundraising season. You can set your clock by it, the histrionics are so goddamned predictable.
For the past several decades.
It’s impolite to interrupt, but does anybody know why DOJ served a grand jury subpoena on the House yesterday? This has been killing me…
Cori Bush, something about possible misuse of security funds.
Not the answer I’d hoped to hear, but thanks for the clarification.
Sounds like some BS, I was hoping it was related to GOP perfidy.

Fuck Clay Higgins. F'ing pig.
