Representing us olds, I was 11 when Mr. Carter was elected following YEARS of corruption and dirty tricks from the political establishment (I also remember Watergate, what a nerd.) Mr. Carter and Rosalynn were relentlessly shat on during their tenure. Where was the support back in the day? On the plus side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5vo7jLGOb8&ab_channel=alienbodies

How is Melania even still alive? Shouldn't she have OD'd or killed herself by now

Do not stand

By my grave, and weep,

I am not there,

I do not sleep--

I am the thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints in snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain,

I am the gentle, autumn rain.

As you awake with morning's hush,

I am the swift, up-flinging rush

Of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the day transcending night.

Do not stand

By my grave, and cry--

I am not there,

I did not die.

-- Clare Harner

I'm not crying. I'm not crying.

“The color and the style made [Melanoma] stand out, made her look a part of the pageantry but not of it. And they made the choice seem like a symbol — a sign, perhaps, of Mrs. Trump’s historic ambivalence toward the role of first lady and her reluctance to play to the expectations that surround it, as well as her husband’s norm-trampling tendencies.“

Too lazy/ignorant/self-absorbed/disrespectful to bother finding out what is appropriate attire for a funeral. That tracks.

He's 99. He's been fighting cancer (which sucks). It's not at all surprising, but certainly not comfortable.

I don't expect Jimmy to survive Rosalynn by more than a month or two, personally.

Lots of hymns from my youth. My mom was choir director for a while and she had them sing that The Lord Bless You and Keep You at the end of many services.

In Judaism we have "tikkun olam" - the idea that a broken world is healed not by divine action but by human effort.

The Carters have lived that.

I wish that I believed in Heaven so that I could imagine them reunited soon...but I could be wrong...

Rest in peace, Rosalynn.

Ok I cried, not gonna lie. However, I think "you can do anything for 20 minutes except hold your breath" will be going into my regular rotation of sayings.

A lot of folks' business is causing chaos, and business is good when Democrats are in office fighting off fascism.

Goddamit, who negotiated an Egypt-Israel peace treaty? Jimmy Carter, that's who.

Hey, the next guy that negotiated a Middle East peace treaty, Bill Clinton, was *also* a Democrat. Just like Biden, who seems to be all in on making peace happen there, and hey, was also involved in the Northern Ireland agreement.

Almost as if Dems are good for peace.

What I’ve read is the protocol is all living First Ladies. Joe is the first sitting prez at a First Lady funeral, or so I read on the internet. And living presidents don’t normally attend. Don’t know who made those rules.

Correction: Joe is first sitting prez since JFK.
