JFC. This is the first one of these I've seen in a long time and watching it just reminds of why there is no reason to watch these briefings. I mean there may be an occasional acorn of a good question in a sea of really stupid acorns (OK, I don't even understand my analogy), but my time can definitely be better spent.

I didn't even watch the whole thing, but I counted at least 3 questions about "BIDEN OLD!"

I used to believe these folks were just bad at their jobs but the truth is worse—they need to do this to Biden or any other Democratic figure in order to spread FUD that minimizes Republican malfeasance. Because they need Republicans to win for those tasty, tasty tax cuts.

That and just the overall shit-show of chaos Republicans create which creates lots of stories to attract people who just can't look away.

So they benefit in two ways, tax-cuts and greater sales.

"Here’s the thing. As it now stands, 100% of Californians are being forced to live with:

• Fear of walking down the street, taking their kids to school, or running a small business because of rampant crime, homelessness, and drug addiction.

• The exploding cost of living (gas, food, shelter) which for the first time in our history is causing more people to leave California.

• Failing public schools and plummeting test scores. The numbers don’t lie… prolonged school closings not only robbed our kids of learning but of social interaction."

These messages tend to fall flat in the face of reality. Somebody enjoying a beer on their sunny deck in the backyard, unafraid of anything around them except maybe that annoying yellow jacket, can really take this seriously. The GOP PAC's ran the most frighteningly violent commercials I have ever seen. They should have had a warning for kids not to watch. And they were relentless in their airing of them. This was in 2022. Those commercials didn't work in Washington state because that's not how we live. What a strategy, scare people to death. We're not dealing with nice folks.

People are leaving? Fantastic, take your neighbor as well. That would loosen up some housing stock and might help the homelessness issue a bit. Comment on the article:

Despite all the good things President Biden has done during one of the toughest periods in American history, the media has planted and nurtured the idea that Biden is unfit to be our president.

So now, after thousands, likely hundreds of thousands, articles to that end, we are ready to dump the president that ended Trump's reign of terror, the covid epidemic, the inflation that fighting covid entailed, war in Ukraine, war in Israel, Republicans trying to steal our democracy, and so much more because....

Well, because of nothing really. There are video's of Biden perhaps showing signs of being old, but the man had a terrible speech impediment as a youth. Nothing is wrong with his brain!

It would be interesting to ask Mark Milley, Bill Gates or some other neutral prominent Americans whether they thought Joe Biden was unfit to be president.

Why have we not seen that kind of story here?

I suspect it is because this is media-invented and repeated in order to drive the fear and self-loathing that increases circulation and, through that, ad revenue.

This, like Seinfeld, is a story about nothing.

Nowhere in the world is safe if the USA lets this happen. Nowhere.

And we see that other countries in the world will easily fall for the same banana in the tailpipe, as long as some small minority gets the chop first.

We have to outvote these people at any point. Protesting, marching, posting will not save us. Only votes to get them out of power. We know what needs done, all there is left is to do it in sufficient numbers.

Expand full comment

But there might be a place or two where I will be able to eek out the majority of my life before it all burns down.

That's enough for me.

As for outvoting them? There's only one more election to do that...then one more...then one more.

But, once the coin flips wrong it's over--and eventually the coin's gonna flip wrong again.

And that's the moment I pick north or south and hope for the best.

Because "here" will already be lost.

Yeah but the work is always never done. Every election IS important; that's why this colonial society put in so many ways to disenfranchise those who weren't male landowners. The work is never done with one election.

If I lose elsewhere, I probably would have lost anyway and, no matter what, when I'm dead it's not my problem anymore.

We just see this differently, it's not going to go anywhere, and I don't see myself responding further.
