Ta, Evan. Clean water for all! I was FURIOUS when the UN Bill of Human Rights did not include access to safe drinking water. I seethed for at least a week.

Speaking of clean water:

Some Alabamians Can’t Even Flush Their Toilets. The EPA Is Here to Help.

Scores of Black Belt communities can get assistance from feds’ new pilot program.

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/02/black-belt-alabama-toilet-sewage-infrastructure-epa-biden-administration/

On Tuesday, Flowers joined Radhika Fox, the EPA’s assistant administrator for water, in announcing the expansion of a federal program aimed at providing as many as 150 communities with the technical assistance needed to begin addressing wastewater access issues.

The program initially served 11 pilot communities, including White Hall, a small town halfway between Selma and Montgomery.

Real Patriotic Murricans don't need no unpolluted water, or breathable air, or safe food. They just need to turn Republican, and none of those things will be necessary any more.

Interesting note, Ken Curtis, Festus in Gunsmoke, sang in that group. Along with some 1940s big bands. He was actually a very good singer, it just seemed unlikely because of his tv and film roles. Sort of like Jim Nabors/Gomer Pyle. There was another guy who was on Andy Griffith several times playing a hick who had a good voice.

I have a Sawyer water filter I bought for camping that will clean 100,000 gallons of water in its lifetime and I'm not sure why they're not used more often.

Removes 99.99999% of all bacteria (salmonella, cholera, and E. coli); removes 99.9999% of all protozoa (such as giardia and cryptosporidium); also removes 100% of microplastics

Filter rated up to 100,000 gallons

"

The United States vetoed an Arab-backed United Nations resolution Tuesday demanding an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war in the embattled Gaza Strip.

The vote in the 15-member Security Council was 13-1 with the United Kingdom abstaining, reflecting the wide global support for ending the more than four-month war. It was the third US veto of a Security Council resolution demanding a cease-fire in Gaza.

"

wth America? I heard the reasoning was it would hamper negotiations. Apparently nobody else has that concern.

Israel's rationale, such as it is, seems to be that full release of all the hostages is their precondition for ceasing their bombardment. This seems... unlikely, as this is the only bargaining chip that Hamas still has: Gaza has no means to offer any pushback to Israel's demands other than spasmodic and ineffectual resistance.

I don't know why the U.S. is playing along with it, though my guess is that Netanyahu has made support of his campaign a make-or-break for Israel's alliance with the U.S.
