I never watched "The Nanny" except in passing, although a friend correctly described it as "Hazel with a sexy Hazel."

Even then, it was obvious that Drescher, a supposedly dumb bunny, was the smart one. The servant who is smarter than her boss? I wonder where that idea came from except as far back as Plautus.

And it was obvious that the old observation that it takes a smart actor to play dumb applied here.

The powers that be apparently thought they were dealing with The Nanny.

That's how dumb they are.

If they were smart (like, say, The Nanny) they would shut down the AMPTP.

But they aren't smart. They are dumb and greedy.

The clothes tho! My gawd her wardrobe was to DIE FOR!!

And the whole show was her baby so it’s pretty obvious the execs were outmatched here.

"Have they considered whether or not audiences would actually even want this?"

They dictate what we want. Just like automakers.

Remember about 15-20 years ago when they had Dead Fred Astaire dancing with a vacuum cleaner?

Utterly repulsive. There was a Sinatra-ad, too.

Ugh.

Those ads must have dropped like anvils that broke their diets, because they disappeared.

Thanks for the update, Robyn. You are right when you asked whether they'd consider whether audiences even wanted this, because it seems unlikely. The problem is the owners don't fucking care what we want. They figure that we'll take what they give us and if it's just reruns of dead actors, which saves them a buttload of money, then we'll go ahead and watch it. How many Americans, if asked 20 years ago, would have wanted a grocery store with 1 checker and 18 self-checkouts where you check out, bag the groceries, pay for the groceries, and then haul them out to your car all by yourself? We're doing everything but stocking the shelves. We would have said Hell to the No, of course. But we all do it now because they've given us no other choice.

I absolutely *had* to do that self-checkout thing at what appears to be a Publix location testing the idea. Of course, the employee stationed as a helper had to guide me through every step, especially as there was no helpful bar code or doodly square to automate the process, so it took three times as long as if there had been a ten items or less line.

I told her, "I hate these self-serve lines because it just seems to me like a way of doing you out of a job." She continued to smile but it's the truth.

If the chain also does away with basic sanitation, they'll be on a par with Walmart.

I always steal the bags when I have to self-checkout. It's my compensation for doing the store's work.

Saw an interesting example of AI in a YouTube ad the other day. It was for one of those scammy Medicare Advantage plans and opened with an AI generated Dwayne Johnson standing next to an AI generated Oprah Winfrey, urging to you sign up for this plan, now!

The voice and video were pretty convincing, but I knew right away that both of these people have enough money not to bother with a scammy ad like this.

I wish I'd been quick enough to pause and rewind the ad so I could have shot it with my cell phone to send to Johnson and Wjnfrey's agents.

I dunno..... Audiences keep buying all that crap Marvel & Disney are selling. Why would they care if their beloved supreheroes are played by AI?

Crisis actors will now be AI due to a loophole in the new contract. Qanon will make sure that comes true.

The I Love Lucy episode that we never asked for or needed if 2023 Hollywood Moguls had their way: The time when Lucy, dressed as a Minion, sings Firework by Katy Perry on The Masked Singer. Ricky, as a judge, screams out "Lucy, you've got some splaining to do!!!" in his trademark voice. Hilarity and hijinks ensue.

An AI version of Streep will be technically just as good as the real thing. AI cannot do anything other than it's programmed to do. It can't access anything other than what's put into its memory.

An AI Streep will be nothing more than a stitched together version of her other performances. Her voice, her intonation, her mannerisms, all can be faithfully recreated, sliced up, and reassembled in new ways. Technically just as good as her.

Of course, an AI Streep can't do anything new because new is not in its memory to access.

Good on the unions.
