The MM pretends to explain the world from a "we" perspective (we're just like you), but in reality this is an excuse to propagandize the right wing talking points, and make these beliefs appear more mainstream, and in fact become mainstreamed, while shutting Democrats and the left out of the conversation without anyone noticing.
