It's far too easy to say that you can choose your friends, but honestly you can't force someone to be your friend because they have high morals or someone not to be your friend because they may be shady. I grew up being friends with a couple arsonists, rapists, drug dealers and people convicted of assault. I never followed their behaviors and definitely made it known I didn't approve of what they did, but do you turn your back on a fellow human that is obviously hurting? Of them all I did help out a couple. It's been nearly 20 years since I saw the mom of one of them and asked about him. She said she hadn't heard from him since he was the getaway driver for a bank robbery a few years earlier. Long story short, while I've known and hung out with a lot of really shady people I have a great education, a career I've been in for 17+ years, a wife and house in the suburbs and I just feel like you can't judge a person by the company that they keep.
I used to think the party of trump turned republicans into immoral craven weaklings. As time has marched on I’ve realized they were that way long before trump, they’ve just been exposed.
That is the one blessing of living through the dumbest of end times. All the aholes just let their ahole flag show loud and proud no more hiding it or pretending.

Where I live the only place I know of is the 7-Eleven/gas station which I rarely go to. Of course there are always a bunch of scuzzy people hanging out so I'm not surprised.
To be clear, the article points out the trend differences between theft (up) and violent crime (down). But the numbers are still lower than historic levels.
