Child sacrifice. Used in many cultures to appease god.

Mostly true.

I was on a city bus once (this was in Honolulu but it could have been anywhere) when a scruffy looking man got on, walked to near me and started moving his hands as if he were carrying a submachine gun and making pew-pew sounds.

Since I had dealt with many people like him coming into the newspaper office, i was more interested in observing than frightened, but the others on the bus (almost all women) were terrified.

There are people who dream every day of slaughtering people. Most are self-restrained from doing it, and others are forestalled by the logistics of doing it. Few if any countries facilitate these evil people to the extent America does.

More true than funny. Like everything else, from autos to printers, guns are much more reliable now than they used to be. The $2 pistol and the Saturday night special often failed. Guns today are reliable.

He'll say anything to keep the NRA equivalent of those $750K checks Exxon writes him for voting against environmental legislation coming in

If you opened up your colloquial version of Merriam Webster you'd find him right next to "ladder-puller"

With no criminal record the shooter was a good guy with a gun except for just one day…

Who would guess that Cruz would double down on something completely wrong?

We live in St. Louis, my daughters go to a neighboring school, and they have friends at CVPA. Yesterday was complete chaos, with their school in lockdown, and we picked them up early because they were understandably upset. They are not in school today, and I don't blame them... they are terrified for their own safety and heartbroken for their friends. I'm not sure how I can just expect them to go back, when nothing will change.
