"It’s as if Black people will let just anyone into our secret society. Look, I'm not happy about Candace Owens and Kanye West, either, but they’re still Black."
At times I wonder if all this bullshit will smother you, Stephen, and they you pull out pure poetry like that. Also, I now identify as a 4'8" Asian.
I loved those scenes where a bunch of lawyers would just start arguing loudly all at once. It reminded me of Berke Breathed's reporters yapping in Bloom County.
The really stupid part here is that the "Great Replacement"/ "white genocide" conspiracy theory cluster depends on counting characteristically mixed-race Latins as "non white". As a bonus, modern survey methods have long since adopted voluntary self identification as a standard in almost all circumstances.
"We conclude that partisan gerrymandering claims present political questions beyond the reach of the federal courts," Chief Justice Roberts wrote for the conservative majority. "Federal judges have no license to reallocate political power between the two major political parties, with no plausible grant of authority in the Constitution, and no legal standards to limit and direct their decisions. Roberts noted that excessive partisanship in the drawing of districts does lead to results that "reasonably seem unjust," but he said that does not mean it is the court's responsibility to find a solution.
There are two conceits at work here. One is, the Constitution does not mention "gerrymandering", so it's a political matter for the states to reach redistricting decisions (while also washing the federal court's hands of ever having to hear another such case).
The other is, not only does the Constitution's silence on the matter takes precedence over any concerns of racial discrimination, but that the US has--in the magical fantasies of the conservative majority--achieved post-racial status; e.g., racism and discrimination are no longer things.
What this pretzel-logic refuses to address is that, with the GOP being an exclusively whites-only Party, and Democrats being an inclusive multicultural Party, partisan gerrymander IS racial gerrymandering. And this, boys and girls, is exactly how a previously racist USSC dragged US into the previous Civil War, one brain-dead and bigoted decision at a time. And as we have already seen from this Court, race isn't the only issue they've put on the judicial chopping block.
But perhaps a largely forgotten provision of the Constitution offers a solution to safeguard American democracy. Created amid some of the country’s most violent clashes over voting rights, Section 2 of the 14th Amendment provides a harsh penalty for any state where the right to vote is denied “or in any way abridged.”A state that crosses the line would lose a percentage of its seats in the House of Representatives in proportion to how many voters it disenfranchises. If a state abridges voting rights for, say, 10 percent of its eligible voters, that state would lose 10 percent of its representatives — and with fewer House seats, it would get fewer votes in the Electoral College, too.

Like other power hungry oligarchs in the past, they underestimated the ignorance of the American electorate.

We added a rep, I thought. Although Hispanics may have less representation.

Sadly, you're not exaggerating. It's just a matter of time.
It's especially prevalent in S5
One of the worst race riots in US history was in NYC. Troops were removed from the Gettysburg battlefield to help restore order.
What a fucking load of shit. Commitment to rich donors is the only commitment they have.
SER missed a rather important point: https://www.npr.org/2019/06...
