Oh look, a Louisiana charter school has found a simple solution for combating teen pregnancy that also allows them to “maintain an environment where students will learn and exhibit acceptable character traits that govern language, gesture, physical actions and written words.” The solution is to force the girls to take classes at home if it turns out they are indeed going to bepunished byblessed with a child, thus killing two birds with one stone -- shaming pregnant girls while simultaneously teaching students that shaming pregnant girls is constitutive of an acceptable “gesture, physical action” or “written word.”
Boiler room? Actually, true story here from the school where I teach. The principal is walking the hallway after school and hears...a noise... coming from the gymnastics equipment storage room. He opens the door, and sees a couple going at it against the pommel horse, both facing the other way. They do not know he is there. He is at a total loss for what to do or say. He glances around the room and sees a pack of cigarettes on the floor. He barks out, "No cigarettes allowed in school!" and walks away. He never did know who they were, but I betcha each of them shit their pants for the next week every time the phone rang at home.
The Catholic schools around here (Louisiana) have long had boarding schools in the middle of nowhere for preggy & bad girls. Why don't they just make a state prison for them all somewhere? They could repurpose some of the unused buildings in Angola prison.
Yet when a Muslim school started the process to meet Louisiana&#039;s <strike>high</strike> standards for voucher/charter schools, legislators and other expressed so much &quot;concern&quot; the Muslim school dropped their application.
