So I'mma toot my own horn a bit to say that Mrs. Chowder and I had a conversation about exactly this over the weekend. We have moved to Spain and are renting our Seattle home. We agreed that we would not press our tenants if they had problems paying rent. Before we could even act on our thoughts the city of Seattle and our property manager sent out notifications that temporary inability to pay would not result in eviction or even late fees.
Just to prove that the USA doesn't have a monopoly on religious idiocy, 46 persons in South Korea have tested positive for COVD-19 after attending church services where a salt water spray gun was used to administer "cleansing holy spirit treatments. https://www.yahoo.com/finan...
For all the truly awful things Doug Ford has done to the province of Ontario, he did announce today that eviction tribunals would issue no new eviction notices, and requested that sheriffs not act on any outstanding eviction orders.
No President in recent memory has been re-elected in times of a recession.
"George H.W. Bush had an 85% approval rating in 1991, after the resounding U.S. victory in the Persian Gulf War. Yet he lost reelection in 1992 because of a relatively short and mild recession that ended before the election but produced a “jobless recovery” and many months of economic anxiety."
I think I'm missing the meaning of the term permanent in a theoretical way here. If you're permanently in a state of revolution, then what is your goal? When you get to what you're seeking, do you have to revolt against that, then, because it's the new status quo? At some point doesn't it become about preserving one's gains?
I had a landlord who did this for me a long time ago in a different crisis. In gratitude I did some minor repairs, took over the landscaping when his regular guy left, and made sure my place was spotless when I vacated. And I paid him back in full. His kindness gave me hope.
I screencapped something from a Maylasian website I wanted to bring to your attention, will see if I can include it. Basically it says the virus can bind to ACE2. Have you heard/read anything about this? Because if so...
If I were a landlord, even if I felt the financial pain myself, there is another consideration. How easy would it be to find another tenant right now? Anybody who boots out a tenant (especially if working poor, hourly wage folks) might find that the current potential tenant pool is not what it normally is.
Folks already established somewhere and paying their rent might not be eager to look for a new place right now. Unless they've been real trouble (I've seen asshole landlords as well as tenants, so no judging unless I know the people). Evicting someone could result in simply leaving a rent-income hole until this is all over anyway.
We online ordered BBQ from this great local place exactly twice in the last 6 months, but one of them was just a couple weeks ago. The food is mostly delicious, but the order was quite screwed up. Anyway, I got an email from them today saying they are still open for takeout, and encouraging everyone to order takeout from some local business at least once a week, if they can afford it. They also did 350 free meals for school kids.
Yep, I will be ordering BBQ from them again soon. Hope they get my order right this time.
Silly and unpredictable is usually a good strategy.

Good to know we were all on the same page.
She said"That don't confront me, long as I get paid next Friday."

Your move, Joel Osteen

Buh-Bye, Donnie. And, oh, those Feds at the door? They're not your SS protection, that's the FBI with a warrant for your arrest.

Extra credit for the Dicks bag of love.
Announcement just made in Austin that imposed a moratorium on evictions and utility cut-offs.
When I say "eat a bag of Dick's" I mean it.
I was sure I knew which landlord it was, thinking it was my ex-landlord in Bangor, Maine. Maine is full of special angels.
