I'm very pleased with Mayor Mamdani. I'm also pleased that Brad Lander, whose work I've known for years, is going to represent this weird district in Congress. Congress needs more progressives, and fewer regressives.
Dan Goldman did a good, nay a GREAT job at the impeachment trial of That Thing in the Offal Office. He's quite wealthy, and will land on his feet. As Robyn said, Brad put his body between ICEholes and the immigrants they were targeting AT THEIR ASSIGNED COURT DATES. Somehow, I don't see Dan Goldman doing that.
Ta, Robyn. We need a lot more progressives in Congress. I read YEARS ago that if the minimum wage had kept pace with the cost of living, it would be $22/hour. It's approximately one third of that. In NYC, it's $15. The ability to keep a roof over one's head and pay for basic needs is BASIC.
I don't believe that Trump writes any of the non-insane posts on his Truth Social account. Take this, for example:
“Many Communists running in badly failing Blue States,” he wrote in one post. “The votes seem to have them doing quite well against each other. The bad news is that history has conclusively shown that the downtrodden States that they will soon be running will ONLY GET WORSE. MAGA!.” He then followed that up with “America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!!”
I don't believe Trump wrote any of that. I assume that Stephen Miller did, or it may have been one of Miller's underlings. It's not just the fancy words 'conclusively' and 'downtrodden' that make me think Trump didn't write it, it's that there is logic to the post, and complicated syntax. Trump doesn't use logic, he rants, calls people names, gets his MAGA people riled up. He doesn't use phrases like 'downtrodden states that they will soon be running' as subjects of predicate clauses. I don't buy it.
I believe it's Natalie Harp, that blonde bimbo who follows The Dotard around with a portable printer and prints out screenshots from the web that she thinks he'll like.
If a folding chair had run against Espaillat, it would have done well in the primary, since it would likely be seen in the district more often and have fewer racist and misogynistic campaign workers. Now we just have to hope he doesn't pull a Cuomo. Chevalier may turn out to be an inexperienced disaster, but enough people were tired of the status quo to want to take that chance.
I think the authenticity and bold action take is the most important thing. It’s not fealty to any one particular subset of ideology. Voters are pissed and they want solutions. They don’t want politicians who sound like they’re reading from a watered down unflavored pablum of nothing.
If you don’t like “socialism” propose market based solutions but be bold about it and make actual solutions.
I see both opportunity and catastrophe in how we read this local election.... Getting the Muslim vote by being sympathetic to Gaza makes sense. Endorsing the death of Israel by Hamas and Hezbollah do not.
The new socialist D's must be careful. Jump on the DSA bandwagon, but look before you leap. Follow Bernie. Remember the Muslim vote is small, but can be doubled if you can get the American Jews who want a two-state solution.
The best leaders for the new D's are mostly Jews themselves....Bernie, Ossoff, maybe even Frey from Minneapolis or Pritzker from Illinois. Any of them with Mamdani as V-P would be a powerful ticket.
