I'm a Vietnam vet trying to get enrolled now. I have a rare cancer that the VA lists as the presumptive result of exposure to Agent Orange. Mrs. weejee and I are paying $1500/mo copay for my daily chemo pills that are keeping a lid on new growth to private insurer (which I'm told the VA will not reimburse) while the VA piddles around bouncing me back & forth between medical and disability. Told ruling on disability application could take over a year. Fortunately, I can cover the $1.5K/mo - other vets with lesser fiscal situation would literally die on the vine waiting.

My step-dad got jerked around during enrollment (also Viet Nam and Agent Orange exposure) The VFW and calls to his Congressional delegation worked magic.

Glad you jumped in with that. My Medicare Part B which would have allowed me to get cataract treatment would have come with a monthly penalty because I waited too long to apply. SS is just paying the bills so I couldn't afford it. Wife asked me if I checked VA benefits. So far I have been to 3 facilities which are all equipped with state of art equipment, excellent practitioners. All I really wanted was to get my damn eyes fixed but what I've gotten so far is full health exams, ultrasound look sees at kidneys bladder aorta and who knows what else. I am scheduled for the operation at the Bronx VA hospital March 9th. The cost is a co-pay of 45 bucks for a plaque reducing pill. All else is that meen and dirty socialized VA care. And all the staff are so happy and bubbly!

We don’t offer any subsidies and we are not giving it away for free.

So they're offering the exact same health insurance options that existed before the ACA, except now taxpayers are paying for the marketing. Gotcha.

I hope these slack-about agents are being rigorously tested for drug use while soaking precious tax dollars.

For those of you who like numbers, that's about $57,000 per person served. Given that the annual cost of employer sponsored health care for a family of four is around $16,000 - it would have been easier, and cheaper, just to give 3.5 families the cash to purchase the health care from whatever local agent they wanted to.
