Thanks for the info. My former spouse lives in O'side, but up near Fire Mountain. My daughter lives in Temecula and her husband is an O'side policeman * probably the only progressive in the whole cop shop. I worry about the restaurants South of Cardiff too. and the Poseidon in Del Mar.
Later update, just south on Pacific Coast Highway in Carlsbad the bluff is eroding and we're about to see the first of many closures of PCH this El Nino Grande winter. They're currently tossing enormous boulders to try and stabilize it but I'm not seeing how that will work for any length of time.
I retired and moved to Thailand 6 years ago. I lived in C'bad (up the hill, by the high school on Westwood). Are the Ter-a-Mar cliffs still standing? Most had been fenced off a few yards from the edge to keep people out. *We just went around the end of the fence by the stairs.....
PCH is washing out south of Ponto. Terra Mar is still standing but the base of the cliffs are taking a beating. It'll be interesting to see what happens to them and the developments between the Army Navy Academy and the State Beach entrance at the seawall.
It's actually more dire off the strand in O'side because the building is old and right on the sand. Bad day to be one of those people.

I have never seen a summer like this years! I cant recall a summer without MOSQUITOES! The temperatures have topped out in the low 90s! I live on a 2 acre pinninsula. Standing water all around the place. GNATs arent about either. It has been pleasent but worrisome. MAPLEs and other hard woods are beginning to turn color.
Hey, Brooke-the wife and I are flying to Texas this evening to spend the weekend in Austin. We’ll take this Hell heat with us and leave it there where it belongs.
Nic Cage's first house sank into a sinkhole. He rebuilt, but his second house burned down and then sank into a sinkhole. But this one is still standing
I used to live in Malibu. I always hated driving past those low-slung houses built on stilts with only a driveway connecting them to earth. Even then, in the late 60s-early 70s, I knew they'd be screwed eventually. I guess eventually is now? Take heart, though. Each one that succumbs to the surf and gravity offers everyone else a glimpse of the ocean it has been blocking!
I just got off the phone with my insurance company and then the roofers. Since I didn't have leakage after the hailstorm in March (just dented shingles) I'm just now filing a claim for the roof replacement. I'm going with Category 4 shingles, but of course a future storm could be worse. An EF-3 tornado passed just over a mile from my house, so I feel like I got off light. Better than Nic's neighborhood, apparently.
I live in San Diego and keep thinking, well you used to live in Chicago and St Louis and Washington and it got a *lot* hotter there, so what's the problem?
I rode my bike yesterday in triple digit temps for the first time in three years (since I moved from Austin to San Diego). I used to handle that heat without any problems. Not anymore. I lost my acclimation.
Horses needed to be curry combed often. People were frugal back when horses were a major for of transit, so that horse hair went into the walls as insulation or to help stabilize plaster.
Here among the JACK PINES there is no basement! But I do have radient floor hot water heating. My propane bill was less than a thousand dollars last year. I'm liking it a lot!
It’s hot AF in the Bay Area and people are being warned of the undertow and sneaker waves.
We’re due to go back to normal temps tomorrow. My husband has been working outside and making sure to hydrate as much as possible but it’s getting to him. I had to remind him that there is such a thing as heat exhaustion and that’s it’s ok to take care of himself.
I grew up on San Pedro Beach. We had riptides and undertows there in the 50s, too. I 'member one time Santa Claus was supposed to parachute to a shopping center and got blown off course into the drink. A couple of surfers risked their lives to pluck him out of the surf.
