OK - How many accused in Gitmo have any "due process rights" that are both recognized and honored?
Have any of them seen their families in years? Do they have proper legal representation?
Has anyone ever done a study on the cost of alternatives to pretrial incarceration such as ankle monitors? Would it be more or less expensive than warehousing them in county jails? It can be months or even years between indictment and the beginning of trial. That’s a long time for someone to be sitting in jail. With ankle monitors, they could still work and earn a living while the charges were pending. And pay taxes.
I’m just spit balling, but if we reserved the jails for people who a proven history of violence and use alternatives to jail or bail for people facing minor charges, society might be better off in the long run.

They literally think that is how things are and should always be: that there is one group (white, male, straight, christian, repug) who get protection from the law, but don't have to obey it, and another group (everybody else) who have to obey the law, but get no protection from it.
Once the insurrection had installed Trump as President-for-life, did the rank and file insurrectionists expect to be appointed commanders in whatever well-armed, poorly regulated militias that they believed should replace current law enforcement? They were attempting to overthrow an existing government and replace it with authoritarianism. How that works out in history is that once the revolution or civil war succeeds, the new leadership purges the people who got them there. French Revolutionaries, Russian Revolutionaries, Hitler's Brownshirts, the VietCong, were all gotten rid of once they'd outlived their usefulness.
I wonder if Pence is sentient enough to understand that his former Lord and Savior would toss him to the mob in a nanosecond to be dismembered piece by piece.
