Yes, it is my experience that they are not very well educated, and feel otherwise powerless in their life, so they take it out on people who have to be nice to them.
Agreed. I have upped the tips even as I've had to order in more than usual, and would do it even if they don't have people bothering them, but because they are going OUT in a pandemic.
A friend of mine told me this story about a waitress he knew, 30 years ago, at a diner. She was at a table of 4 or 5 boys-men. While taking their orders one of them put his hand on her hip. She picked up a fork off the table, put it against his throat and asked him what he preferred.
Needless to say, this wouldn't happen anywhere near as much if we didn;t have too many states that have open carry laws. This kind of shit will only get worse unless we can somwhow band orpen carry in all state and territoris, and the laws are ENFORCED.
I see paper towels in the toilet at my work place at least once a week. I still shake my head remembering signs in the 'Mens' restrooms reminding the adults* to flush the urinals.
* This was at a community college where one would presume all the males were highschool graduates and have been potty trained.
It's NOT fearmongering, it's awarning to people who haven't been paying attention to what Trump, Barr and their cronies have been doing lately. Been to Portland lately? Unidentifed masked soldiers?/police? arresting and beating people for doing nothing? There are reasonable people, professors and history experts who do not mormally believe these things would happen, but now are warning that Trump will not leave.
If anything we need a moritorium on the idea that Trump can't win.
But Macy's hasn't really been Macy's for decades now. Cincinnati-based Federated Department Stores bought Macy's in 1994, and soon after changed their company name to Macy's, knowing that the Macy's name was more well-known all over than their own name. The 'Federated' Macy's has bought numerous other former local chains since then.
But they have mountains in Iowa - I've seen them!*
*Years ago, there was a lame show called "Project UFO" where a bunch of Air Force officers investigated sightings. In one case they went to "Iowa", which was basically in that same canyon with mountains surrounding it outside LA where westerns and Star Trek, and loads of other shows used for outdoor scenes.
Sometimes I wish we could bring back stocks and pillories just for situations like these. I know that everybody has the right to be an asshole, but it would be delicious to see these deliberately cruel and willfully ignorant people ridiculed and shamed. Of course, that's assuming they're capable of shame. In Trumpamerica, it would probably be a badge of honor!
Service industry people should all be given an air horn. Asshole gets in their face screaming bullshit? Air horn. Religious ass insists on imaginary rights? Air horn. Entitled ass treating them like crap.... You know what to do
I really have no idea how someone working for a chain restraint in a highly religious right/Republican area makes a living - it's hard to imagine their customers give them enough tips to survive (especially given that those places are most likely to skim the tips)
although even Chick Publications - an entity not definitely not known for tact - eventually told people to give Chick Tracts with the tip
Once a blind date took me to dinner and left a $5 tip on a $50 bill. I excused myself, found the server in the kitchen, apologized for the asshole and gave her $20 bucks not just in compensation, but also in thanks for revealing the true nature of my date, who by the way never saw me again.
Super soaker with dye in it

If I had a counter service job where I couldn’t move, I would have an air-horn can at the ready for maskholes intent on yelling in my face.

No, you wouldn't've been a Karen. You'd've been an anti-Karen, someone we'd all be proud to know.
