Let me guess - the “gun went off.” All by itself. Funny, how the folks who keep saying “guns don’t kill people, people do” are constantly having their guns kill people all by themselves.

I stopped my relationship with my best friend of 20+ years. We made it through the first Trump presidency, but we didn’t make it to even the last election. I believe the last thing we said to each other was…

Me: you don’t understand, he will destroy America. He is working for our foreign enemies.

Her: (screaming incoherent Fox News and Facebook propaganda talking points that normal people know are bullshit, getting more and more agitated and abusive because I will not fold.)

Me: I can’t do this anymore. If I want to be screamed at by an idiot brainwashed by propaganda, I’ll rejoin Twitter.

That was the last conversation we had, before this last election.

She used to be your normal run-of-the-mill country club Republican, sure we didn’t agree on politics, but she got so twisted by Facebook, I didn’t know who she was anymore.

I remember her breathlessly trying to tell me how she saw a video on Facebook from some white guy in Europe talking about the Muslims were raping the women in the streets and I’m like, It’s some rando dude in a basement somewhere. That isn’t evidence of anything!

She went to a Maga rally and told me how it was joyful and so much fun and everyone was so nice. When I asked her what about the racism, she told me that I was racist against white people.

She became virulently anti-abortion even though she had one herself that her father and then husband strong-armed her into, because she centers men in everything in her life, even though she’s the one making all the money and they just use her. She’s bitter about what the men did to her so now she wants to take choice away from all women.

She started wearing a “God Guns and Trump” hat, even though I’ve never seen her anywhere near a church in 20+ years. She bragged about having guns and I was like Bitch I grew up in a family that hunted deer. I’m not impressed with guns. It was never anybody’s whole identity when I was a kid anymore than a hammer in your tool shed was. What is wrong with you people?

She stopped getting vaccinations. She had Covid like five times.

She started telling me how modern American society “pussifies” men but then she had to laugh when I said that didn’t sound like a bad thing if it made them less of an asshole.

She owns a company that uses non-documented workers with fake Social Security numbers and she said it’s not her business to know if the cards are real or not. She’s made millions off their backs.

We were closer than sisters and we traveled together for years. She used to be so sweet and funny and friendly. Now she’s bitter, hateful and miserable. She lost her gay friends, and most of her female friends. She moved to a red state so she could keep her assault weapons.

Wow now that I read this it sounds so crazy we were ever so close, but it took decades of being twisted by algorithms and the right wing media echo chambers to erase her authentic identity and turn her into one of these cult people we see today. She was technologically naïve, and a heavy heavy heavy Facebook user.

The thing is, they have twisted these people into believing that Trump is their entire White American identity. Identity is a hard thing to lose, and an even harder thing to rebuild.

What a horrific and tragic story.

A little-known piece of history: in the early days of the automobile age, if you were drunk and killed someone while driving, you would get off because, after all, you weren't responsible for your actions when inebriated. Apparently Texas hasn't advanced beyond that kind of reasoning.

My brother was a lifelong Republican who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020. The SIL is a lifelong Democrat so it’s always been a wash.

He switched his voter registration to Independent at 9AM January 7th 2021. I’m still careful when we talk, but do test the boundaries.

Arguing over whether kids should have a 180 day or a 175 day school year is a political issue. Saying there’s a certain number of dead children you will accept in exchange for gun rights isn’t a political issue. If you think it’s more important to protect pedophiles than children, then I don’t want you anywhere near my family.

If I happened to kill the daughter I don't have, any indictments would be irrelevant because I would be suicidal. There is an analogous episode in Catch-22.

Did KillDad actually voter for the yamtits or was he just cheerleader? He's described as a British citizen so wouldn't that be uh, like voter fraud?

I've met conservative Irish guys that lived in Texas. At least they used to. They didn't need to vote to get what they desired. Maybe they self deported.

I guess it is because I am old and went down this road once already, but the notion of currently having relatives who would be Trumphumpers seems strange. I cut off any of mine who would be a Trumphumper back when they were Reaganistas.

In my extended family, people range from far left to far right. Anyhow, for 17-18 years one of my bros did his best to limit his daughters' exposure to yours truly because he didn't want them "infected" by feminism. Anyhow, the girls got high school jobs and for one, extreme sexual harassment ensued. Shortly after the problems began, she called me up and said, "Dad told me to call you. He said you would be able to help." I put the kid on hold for a minute while I laughed my ass off. Then of course I helped her work out a strategy. The whole time I was speaking with her, the theme from Ghost Busters was playing in my brain.

How horrible. Can the Brits demand that the father face murder charges in Great Britain? Several years ago, an American diplomat's wife ended up facing charges for a fatal car accident (after years of legal wrangling).

I can't fathom that the man was not charged by the grand jury. Is it because Texans so firmly believe that men own women? And the father was just killing off his property? Or because the Texas AG did a piss poor job of presenting the case? Regardless of whether the gun magically went off by itself or if it was purposefully aimed, the man murdered his daughter.

Seems like Orange Turd has set the precedent for the Brits to send in a couple of '00 agents to grab him in the middle of the night.

I don't really miss my family but I am curious about a former friend I haven't spoken with since Trump's first election win. One of the things we argued about was climate change. I took a very long time to patiently explain it to him and I thought he was right on the cusp of getting it and said he didn't have anything against renewables but he'd always come back with, "...but they're pushing it too fast, we need more time to transition."

I argued myself blue in the face that if Donald Trump took office, the entire program would be in jeopardy and we'd backslide. He swore up and down that Trump would NEVER do that.

Well, Trump did that today with the help of Lee Zeldin so I'm super curious what my old friend thinks about that.
