In your latest "I'm ready to resign from humanity" news, in London, a man drove a van into a group of people in a terrorist attack Sunday. The driver plowed into a group of worshipers just after midnight Ramadan prayers at a mosque; witnesses said the driver jumped out of the van and, after being tackled by bystanders, said he "wanted to kill more Muslims."
In the CBS story about the London attack, there were lots of commenters along the lines of, "This was an attack on terrorists, not by terrorists." Comments on the WaPo story about the Virginia murder have been closed. I wonder why.
Even that title isn't covering it accurately. She called them because of a robbery, then became afraid they would take her kids. And frankly, after all the shit black people have been through at the hands of cops, she probably should have been afraid even if she wasn't mentally ill.
I know it isn't the point of the story, but I was at least happy to read that both the prime minister and the London Metro police commissioner are women. Maybe in America, in another hundred years?
This is deeply troubling to us in Seattle, for the tragedy of this young woman and her family, but also our police force has just been through a whole big thing designed to reduce police-generated killings and brutality. It's still early on thin information, but apparently this woman and her mental illness and the behavior were known to the department. Seems like they could have come up with a different, non-lethal plan.
Unfortunately, the lines have been made distinct by the government and its media lapdogs: Only acts committed by professed Muslims are deemed "terrorism," and everyone else is just committing normal crimes. It's not just a matter of how words are used; there are real consequences legally as well, and it's pretty fucked up.
People are ready to murder each other. For pretty much any reason, or no reason. Excuses for murder come and go, but our homicidal biology has remained consistent.
Thank you. There are so many to choose from. :}

Dear Chrome,
Why does it take an extension to do this, especially when it should not just be available, but the default.
Sincerely,Your Users

Do they have moderators to nuke hate speech?
If not, why even allow comments on stories like that?

It's the unspoken rule of modern discourse: It's OK to talk about muslims as though they aren't people.

How about we just get rid of religion, because it's the root of all this evil.

My nephew was deployed to New Mexico. He's still there! Come on, New Mexico! Get it together! Thanks for your concern. :)

That's going to be the name of my new Joy Division cover band.
