Did the flag in the dentist's office have gold fringe?

So, this is how we finally get to the zombie apocalypse, right? The administration pushes an unsafe vaccine on a desperate populace, and weirdly, only the nutball antivaxxers survive to build the new world. But, since they try to stop the plague using only essential oils and healing crystals, humanity fails. It writes itself, people!

It's why the dentist hasn't found a cavity in my mouth for years (cuz I don't go very often since she always finds something)

I’m really surprised that BD is only just now getting involved. I would have thought that just the massive increase in needle consumption in hospitals would have had them spinning up production months ago.

I'd love to see an investigation into how all these contracts are really handed out, because it's not by merit.

Meanwhile, in the real world, the traditional glass and medical supply companies know that they can't make enough to vaccinate everyone, even if a vaccine existed now. An explanation from a real scientist:

Here’s a detail for you: how many vials will we need to put all those coronavirus vaccine doses in? What will they be made out of? Are there even that many vials of the right size in the world at the moment? The answer is, well, no there aren’t. Not yet. And the companies that manufacture them are getting orders that are beyond what they are currently able to produce. Here’s a good piece at Wired that goes into the details. In short, if someone waved a wand and made several huge vats of effective vaccine appear tomorrow, we wouldn’t have enough containers to get it rolled out to the general population.

Meanwhile, my aunt (who is an MD/PhD in clinical nutrition and cancer nutrition, so - not an epidemiologist, but also not a slouch) reminded me last week that the common cold is a type of corona virus, and we don't have a vaccine for that yet. She suggested rather gently that folks shouldn't be getting their hopes too far up for a vaccine soon. Or any time, really.

That's exactly what happens. They don't know enough to bid a realistic price--and usually really lowball it with a number that seems astronomical to them. And then are blindsided by actually winning the contract and can't fulfill it. Sounds a little like the 2016 election, eh?

I've read hypotheses that the relative prevalence of Hep C among boomers is because of the old resuable syringes/needles--they were inadequately sterilized between uses when they were getting their childhood vaccinations (and other shots) in the 1950's and 1960's.
