That's GOP "policy."

Even your hardened ne'er-do-wells get weak in the knees when they discover Postal Inspectors up their asses. Not even kidding. Those guys are relentless-- and are not reined in by much in the way of protocol.

MCCONNELL: It's really ridiculous. I mean the administration wants everybody else to produce more except us. They want us to be green, and so they're going after our allies in the -- in the Middle East, asking them to up production. Look, we were energy independent as late as 2019. We can be energy independent again.

PSA! The U.S. is still energy independent and I want this talking point to fucking die.

As neo-con 'thought leader' Grover Norquist explained to an assembled group of Rethug leaders in the '90s, "The way to convince voters that government is broken is to make sure you break it first."

Well, I didn't think it was possible to come up with a more disgusting phrase than "Mitch McConnell", but "Mitch McConnell drooling" succeeded...Or possibly failed; I'm not sure.

"we'll make sure Joe Biden is a moderate."

At which point, they'll decide that's not enough, and try to make sure he's a center-rightist, then a rightist, then an extreme rightist.

To be fair, it must be difficult for people of their strikingly limited intelligence to reconcile 1) their boner for Putin with 2) their boner for nuking Putin.

Putin is not in charge of the military action, the generals of the Kremlin are. Russia is run by a huge and very entrenched bureaucracy, Putin may be the nominal CiC but their system is not like ours. Shrub could say, "Go invade Iraq" and the generals in the Pentagon have to go do it. If Putin says, "Go invade Ukraine" nothing is happening until the Kremlin leadership agrees.

Interestingly up until this point the invasion did not have a single leader in charge, there were multiple generals each in charge of an area, and they didn't seem to be coordinating with each other at all. I'm wondering if this weren't the eternal dick-wagging contest generals and politicians everywhere continually engage in, generals gain status by conquest, which is impossible in a time of peace. Now there is a single commander appointed, we're likely to see a change in the way the war is run soon. Whether that's for the good or not remains to be seen.

American oil companies do not exist to give us cheap gas because we’re so star-spangled awesome. They exist to make profits. Even if 100 percent of the oil needed in the U.S. was produced domestically, prices would STILL be higher now because the GLOBAL market is currently restricted. American companies export oil to whoever will pay the most because, again, THEY EXIST TO MAKE PROFITS. The free market is not a loving god that rewards nationalism. If you want cheap gas for American use, that’s called nationalization. Welcome to the struggle, comrade.

Or someone blew up a chemical plant. Think about the effect on Houston if someone launched a rocket at one of the scores of chemical plants in the area.

LBJ would have called them into the Oval Office, waved their FBI/IRS/NSA/CIA dossiers in front of them and said, "These say you're going to shut the hell up and vote yes." Biden's no LBJ, he's milquetoast Walter Mondale in a more expensive suit.
