Don't tell that to the Morris family. Their son Little Stevie might prove you to be incorrect? There are a great many wonderful things about Saginaw, Mi. The downfall of Saginaw was when General Motors came to town.

I've done several shows with them- a bunch of lovable old coots wearing waaaay too much cheap cologne. They made my stage resemble an assisted living facility and they would invariably spend the day chasing after the twenty something female stagehands. Great music though...

I was trying to figure out why he used Pelosi, and I think you've figured out his "reasoning" -- that bit about making inferences from who's supporting her. The interesting bet on this race seems to be whether the men in white coats will come for Sanford before or after election day. I liked the comment from Pelosi's press secretary: "The only people who took this seriously were the people at Kinko's."

I agree; I teach an online comparative religion course, and some fundy students post the most mind-bogglingly bigoted comments about Jews or Muslims, and think that I can't call them on it, because it's their beliefs.

I can, and I do. Luckily, no one so far this year (fingers crossed!)

Their images come from black-and-white newsreels of the south from Little Rock on. Hate-filled, fearful, screaming mobs. Oh no, They are not like those people in the newsreels. They can't be: Michigan fought for the Union (and valiantly). It's just ordinary life to them. Everything since Brown has washed over them.

And yet you're a regular here, where the Editrix uses it almost as freely as Mellors, though with different intent.

Sad to say, none of the other contemptuous terms we use to make a point about "nigger" carry the same violent, dehumanizing impact.

"Cunt" used to be close, but not anymore.

"Polack," "spic," "wog," "kike," and "towelhead" just seem cartoonish in comparison.

Somebody call Frank Luntz. We need a spin-doctor consult. We need a term for "bigot" that has some sting to it.

Just look at the maps: Michigan's a mitt and Florida's a wang. There's your connection.

Actually the Saginaw area is gorgeous--well, except for the residents, I guess.

Yeah, unless you're from deepest Lancashire (and maybe not even then), cunt's still kind of a... strong word.
