if I were bamz or hillz, I would tell people to protest as much as you can now before trump takes office, cause once he's in charge, I have a feeling the reaction to these protests from the police and national guard will be a lot rougher. ask john lewis about that
Up until this week, I didn't like his music. I always thought it rather overwrought, and there was the small detail that my ex used to play his stuff all the time, and that is a person I think about as little as possible. So I had an aversion to it, but this week I'm getting reintroduced to it in a new context.
Seriously though, this is the kind of shit I am sick of hearing. "Dems are too elitist and didn't listen to poor white people who feel oppressed by minorities asserting themselves because economy and classism is the root of bigotry!" - being said by male/het/cis tertiary educated 'elites' who are theorising that there will be a socialist revolution that will end poverty and bigotry forever, and have never once actually talked to anyone from middle america and therefore haven't yet had the unique privilege of being told to fuck themselves all the way to Hell. Apparently people who find feminism and queer/gender theory too confronting are going to be receptive to the benefits of unionisation and socialism. Good luck with that.
1) while the wall is idiotic fiscally, terrible foreign policy and just straight up stupid, its the only one of his racist ideas that is constitutional. he can't just shove all the racist stuff, he'd get shot. so we might as well just fight with him about it for 4 years. we should also let all those militia friendly private property owners on the border know exactly how much of their land is going to be subject to eminent domain for it.
2) true story, "gringo" comes from mispronouncing Griego (a term for Greek people used on the Iberian Peninsula far too long to have anything to do with the Mexican-American War). the term morphed into a name used for all foreigners in Spain--it was the short version of "they're speaking Greek to me". it came over to the Americas with the Spanish colonists. contrary to popular belief, there's no way it could mean "green go" because a) "verde", which is what they would have used, sounds nothing like "green" and b) the American military didn't wear green uniforms or camo in general at the time. plus, "verde vamanos" would have been a lot cooler.
3) can we just re-dub Tammy Duckworth "Senator Badass" in January?
4) it's not that uncommon for sitting Republicans to win with the "Washington outsider" argument even when they're still employed there. Shrub did it in 2004. he also ran on hope and change as in "we hope we can change?"
5) one of the things I'm going to miss about Sly Turner being in the TX house (because he's Houston's mayor and now you know his nickname) is when they did tax exemptions and he brought his abacus on the floor to fuck with people as he added up all the revenue they weren't going to have for really stupid reasons. I hope that we can look forward to Van Hollen bringing that light saber in as a prop every chance he gets because props are awesome.
6) if you look at the number of bills filed, it makes sense that a legislator's number one job seems to be killing bills. there's a lot of them and most of them are either duplicative or stupid. though I still think the number one job of elected officials is getting yelled at.

Oh but there's not a dime's worth of difference between them. Just ask a Jill Stein voter.
Don't be silly! You only get to identify with one group at a time! Otherwise you will confuse them?
I had a huge crush on Mike Mills years ago. I still think he's adorbs. How old are those guys now?
Better you than me, lady.
It's always been one of my favorites.
