The purpose of the Church - of any church, actually - is not to deliver moral lessons, if by that you mean "pretend it's morally superior". When religious people do that, which obviously happens regularly, they're wrong.

Well we agree there. The purpose of the church is to stockpile wealth and keep the population pliable. But in order to do that they pretend to hold a position of moral superiority.

Omg you mean I’m wrong about the Church socking away incredible wealth? I guess it could be worse. They could be doing things like helping pedophiles evade justice. That would be much worse.

Not that a surprise. What surprises me is the readiness of the German bishops to throw old dogmata over board: ordination of women - necessary; celibacy of priests - has to go; homosexual employees - no problem. Etc.

Yep. I went to Catholic school for a few years. Playground was paved. I was and am convinced that it was an evil plan to get us to tear holes in our uniforms while playing, so the nuns and teachers could verbally and physically abuse us.
