Ta, Robyn. Don't Republicans have jobs to do? It seems they have far too much time on their hands to come up with ridiculous hypotheticals with no basis in reality. Sheesh, indeed.

PLEASE! Lest we forget! Poorness is absolutely, positivilly, something that is ALSO a lifestyle choice. They just drinkin' too much Starbarks and AvicaDO toast.

It's like my old saying goes - Save a penny, squander a million

Tom65's avatar

Obviously you can't have such a program be a success, as this voids the whole Republican platform.

LIBERALS: it's OK if some money gets wasted on the 'undeserving' so long as everyone who is eligible gets the benefits

CONSERVATIVES: it's OK if some people who are eligible don't get benefits so long as we don't waste any money on the 'undeserving'

It's always been this way, and I don't see it changing anytime soon, but fuck, we need to change our priorities as a nation.

Not one person in 10,000 that gets welfare is gong to spend it on tv sets and I for one dgaf if they do.

G-7 in Space's avatar

TV Sets are cheap as shit...140 Ameros at Walmart for 40" ers. Internet is necessary for communication as well so they need that provided . Such bullshit.

A TV is as much as requisite of modern life as a refrigerator, stove or indoor plumbing. Electricity. Heat. Wifi too. Even on the minimal existence level required by the Cruelty Party, these things are necessary to live a normal life.

Right?

WHO FUCKING CARES!

GIVE ERRYBODY EAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NewLarry's avatar

Slightly OT, but I've said for a long time that I'll care who someone loves once everybody is fed and has a dry safe place to sleep.

If a television brings joy to the home it's not a luxury.

EyeQueue's avatar

That's just the thing. They don't want poor people to have joy b/c they obviously don't deserve it. They need to spend all of their waking hours working to better themselves, to "optimize" themselves, and work the hustle to make more money.

josephebacon's avatar

But 19th Century Fox endlessly sounds the alarm that people on welfare actually have...GASP...Cable TV...

"So strange that this kind of criticism only seems to come with programs that specifically benefit the poor."

It would be a lot of fun to see someone from the defense department answering questions about grift and fraud. But I'm sure those dollars are all properly apportioned and wisely spent.

The taxpayers can rest assured that their hard earned tax dollars appropriated for the Department of WAR will be spent on WAR, WAR crimes, more WAR and only WAR! Well, maybe we spend some of it on lobsters, cocaine and hookers, but that's classified information. - Whiskey Pete Hegseth, Secretary of WAR!

What a slime. Guardian:

Hhe dodged questions about whether the IRS has recommended “any taxpayer be granted immunity from an audit for their taxes” during his tenure.

Bessent told Democratic representative Lloyd Doggett he was unable to answer due to the matter being “under litigation”.

Doggett replied that, “it isn’t a question of being ‘not able’ - it’s being ‘not want to’.” He repeated the question, and Bessent once again said he was “unable” to answer.

“You can answer it, you refuse to answer,” Doggett said. He later added: “Your appearance here today, and yesterday, defines deception, and that’s what you’re doing to the American people.”

As we reported yesterday, Bessent refused to be drawn on questions about the status of the contentious provision that provides Donald Trump, his family and his businesses with immunity from IRS audits and repeatedly deferred to the justice department.

Bolton has also agreed to pay a fine of more than $2 million, according to one of the sources. A conviction on a single count of illegal retention carries a sentence of zero to 60 months in prison. A hearing is scheduled for June 26, according to the court docket.

I mean, I also don’t like him, but it’s weird to have something in common with trump.

OT—have you ever noticed that certain people always get a pass at work. You’re told you have to do something—usually right now! And you ask why so and so doesn’t do it since it’s their job, and it’s “well, they won’t but you’re here!”

It’s a pie eating contest and first prize is more pie.

Except not pie, which is delicious.

56 is way too young. She was (and remains) a light in this dark world. May her memory always be a blessing.
