I think of what it would be like to separate children from their parents, to be the person to implement this cruelty, to see the trauma and terror of the separated children, to watch the desperate agony of their parents. What kind of person would do this? That's what the Milgram experiment revealed. The answer is almost anyone, under orders from an authority figure. could inflict pain and even death on innocent people. It was designed as a way to understand the behavior of Nazis and others in Germany who either acquiesced to or committed the atrocities that shocked the world. What they discovered is that the majority of us, in the face of an authority figure, will torture and even kill others if ordered to do so. Unfortunately, the acts committed during WWII and the acts of cruelty at our border are not inhuman.
