You nailed it. I just moved back to CA after living in TN for 10 yrs. They have a church on every corner and their ministers aren't required to even graduate from high school, which doesn't teach them much anyway. No science is required anywhere in school and when it's taught, it's done by the football coach. The people listen to every word their minister says and believes him.

Monday, on the “Mike Huckabee Show”, he claimed that President Obama covered up what really happened in Benghazi. He claims that Mr. Obama will be forced out of office, and not finish his second term.
Huckabee ranted on attempting to compare the tragic events in Benghazi with Nixon and Watergate.
I was one of the first to say that there are questions that as yet have not been answered, but to call the events after the incident a ‘cover-up is a bit brazen.
I never heard Huckabee, or any of the right wing religious base, criticize Bush for lying to the American people and Congress. I never heard him criticized for his self-centered act of invasion that cost U.S. families thousands of their loved ones, and in addition hundreds of thousands of lives of innocent Iraqi’s.
As he went on, I understood his true goal and tactics. He said that if the Democrats regain control of the House, and maintain control of the Senate, that none of this will happen. They won’t let it happen.
“And they won’t let it happen not because they’re protecting just the president, they’re trying to protect their entire political party. If they try to protect the president and their party, and do so at the expense of the truth, their president and their party will go down. Now, here’s what I’m going to suggest will happen — as the information and facts begin to come out, it will become so obvious that there was a concerted and very, very deliberate attempt to mislead this country and its people to lie to Congress, as well as to you.”
It was a fund raiser. Creating false hope for “Obama haters” just might motivate them to give campaign contributions to the Republican candidate they are obliged to support. And they know that 2014 appears troublesome for them at the present.
He has proven once more that he does not believe in Christianity, it is merely a vehicle for him to make money. Attempting to divide our country, and increase hatred and resentment, is not something Christ would have done.
He got deeper and deeper into his conspiracy theory, and even denied it was a political issue.
One more, Huckabee, what about Valerie Plame and Dick Cheney’s fall guy, Scooter Libby? Or what about his promise on the site of 9/11 to get our enemies anywhere, and then he let Osama Bin Laden escape from Tora Bora?
One thing Huckabee was right about, is that Republicans are trying to make Benghazi another Watergate. I think they’ll find that in a battle of wits, they’re a little short-handed.
What I don't get is the picking and choosing from Leviticus. They eat pigs and shellfish, fat and blood, divorce and remarry, wear mixed fibers almost exclusively, shave, have no side curls, and go to church with messy hair. Allegedly, God would be appalled, and I haven't even gotten to the stuff they pretend to abhor in others, like stealing, defrauding, slandering, lying, and oh-so-much-more that all I can say is fuck 'em.
