The ends justify the means.

Whitey isn't particular about particulars so long as the job gets done.

“...we're going to have to start talking out loud about whether the negligent response to the pandemic from white Republicans, from Donald Trump on down, is the point, just like their cruelty.”

This, and the accompanying “oh, it’s just *them* dying?” response from too fucking many, are plain and visible. I think rage about it is part of the critical mass that was reached with the murder of George Floyd.

That vote on masks give a whole new meaning to "Angel From Montgomery."

I imagine there will quite a few more of them in the coming weeks.

Say what you will about Ralph Northam, but he signed an order requiring all Virginians to wear a mask inside of any business. And in spite of opening too early (he didn't ask me for some reason, despite my doom & gloom credentials) we haven't had the spike that many other states are having. You want a miracle treatment? Wear a fucking mask - it cuts transmission enormously.

“Negligent Genocide” of “undesirables” was Republicans response to AIDS, 40 years ago.

Also too anything relating to drugs.. you could see how fast their attitudes changed when addiction started hitting a lot of white people.

We’ve had this fight before in other forms, like mandatory seatbelt laws, where a lot of folks refused, because no one was going to tell them what they had to do with personal property, until social pressure, and tickets forced compliance.

We need to do the same thing for wearing masks. Make it mandatory, and fine people for non-compliance

The mandatory mask orders are only as good as the enforcement of the orders. Currently, I believe NC (Raleigh) is planning on “enforcement through education”. This is not much different than a RECOMMENDATION to follow safety and social distancing protocols. And, because it’s based on each city’s choice (within Wake County), it does little for mitigating spread that comes from people who commute (a lot of people). It’s a nice gesture, and it’s also nice that Governor Cooper says he’s also considering making such an order, but IMO, it’s for show.

They understand that lots of people aren’t going to follow any orders, so enforcing it with recommendations allows them to avoid adding fuel to the fire. They are feeling pressured by businesses, which was exactly the same reason they delayed issuing the stay-at-home order in the first place. We are at a 75% filled capacity for IC beds/ventilators and have clusters appearing in nursing homes, jails, meat processing plants, churches, and Memorial Day events... just waiting on the racetrack-patriot protesting events and ReOpen protesting events to cluster. That 25% availability will disappear quickly. We have, once again, a viable chance to mitigate in advance, and are only begrudgingly taking steps, which aren’t enforced, and taking weeks to finalize what should be very simple decisions. It’s not good enough, Part Deux.

I drove through town yesterday and noted the long line outside of the local ice cream shop. No masks, no distancing. Smdh. Across the street, there was a small group of young BLM protesters in the park. Nearly all were wearing masks.

A lot of refuseniks where I work. I have been forced to wear the much more uncomfortable N95 mask. If one person here gets infected there will most likely be an outbreak.

I think, for Trump/GOP, it’s icing on the cake that the virus is hitting black communities harder. They enjoy it. That’s their racism. If it impacts their ability to vote, it’s all the better for them, and it helps cover up their efforts to impede voting, as well as cheating/rigging. The virus is also now hitting largely white rural communities, with people who are also economically depressed and lacking medical support. They enjoy this too, because it gives them the opportunity to use desperate, ignorant supporters to their advantage. Yes, there are a percentage that are high risk and who will not be voting, as they will be dead. Their families are going to double down on Trump support, because he will likely make sure to blame the Dems, and generously trickle in the necessary medical support he’s stolen from Dem states. Ignorant, angry people don’t suddenly learn differently when they are under pressure.

Trump will also continue to find ample opportunity to profit off the virus. The longer it goes on, the more desperate people become, the more opportunities he will find.

I think it's been pretty clear. As soon as word came out it was hitting black and brown people hardest, that's when the White House response shifted visibly.

Anything that hits Others and old Social Security/Medicaid takers is a Republican win. Just like AIDS was their version of a win against teh Gey.

Don't worry. After this weekend White people will learn they get it, too. Money says Trump encourages his covidiots to unmask and shout dumb slogans and hug and high five. Just wait.
