We were encouraged a while back when CIA Director Mike Pompeo publicly delivered unto Julian Assange and WikiLeaks a well-deserved ass kicking. But at the same time, there has been cause for concern, starting with how he came to the Trump administration from Congress, where he was one of the dumbest members of the House Select Committee on Benghazi. As CIA director, there have been other worrisome things related to his overly cuddly relationship with Donald Trump. For one thing, he willingly shared highly classified intel with disgraced literal actual foreign agent/former national security adviser Michael Flynn, even after the White House was alerted to how compromised Flynn might be. Pompeo was also in the room when Trump twisted the old nipples of DNI Dan Coats in an effort to get him to put the brakes on the FBI's investigation into Trump-Russia conspiracies. Did Pompeo help twist old man Coats's aged nips? Did Trump ask him to help stomp on the Russia investigation? Did he do Trump's bidding? We are just asking!
Another thing that's worried us has been his consistent acknowledgement of Russian interference in the 2016 election, because of how he says it. "Of course," he says, the Russians fucked around in that election. "And the one before that, and the one before that," he always adds, as if it's just "Oh, that old Russian thing!" As if he'd rather be talking about Benghazi some more, or maybe about Hillary Clinton's emails with Sidney Blumenthal, because that's what gets Mike Pompeo rock hard . As if to distract us from how Russia's 2016 campaign was insane in its scope, and how special counsel Robert Mueller is currently investigating whether the Trump campaign LITERALLY WORKED WITH RUSSIA to steal the election.
The Washington Post cites those concerns in a long piece on Pompeo's leadership at the CIA, noting that his blasé attitude toward 2016 Russian election interference, and the fact that he gets "testy" when asked about it, runs directly counter to the unanimous assessment of the U.S. intelligence community, which is that it was fucking bad in an unprecedented way. Based on the rest of WaPo's piece, we're more worried about Pompeo's "leadership" than ever. Here's the lede:
As CIA director, Mike Pompeo has taken a special interest in an agency unit that is closely tied to the investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, requiring the Counterintelligence Mission Center to report directly to him.
Officials at the center have, in turn, kept a watchful eye on Pompeo, who has repeatedly played down Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and demonstrated a willingness to engage in political skirmishes for President Trump.
As WaPo reports, the Counterintelligence Mission Center "helped trigger" the current investigation into Trump and Russia, and Pompeo hasn't tried to screw with its continuing work thus far, BUT:
But several officials said there is concern about what he might do if the CIA uncovered new information potentially damaging to Trump and Pompeo were forced to choose between protecting the agency or the president.
“People have to watch him,” said a U.S. official who, like others, requested anonymity to speak frankly. “It’s almost as if he can’t resist the impulse to be political.”
A second former CIA official cited a “real concern for interference and politicization,” saying that the worry among some at the agency is “that if you were passing on something too dicey [to Pompeo] he would go to the White House with it.”
Who put Devin Nunes in charge of the CIA????
While we're glad to know there ARE professional CIA people willing to monitor their own director, it's pitiful they have to do that in the first place. One bright spot, according to people WaPo spoke to, is that the woman who runs the counterintelligence center is "wary about the administration" and "someone who would not fall in line" if she felt like the Trump White House and its good pal Mike Pompeo (who apparently spends ONE MILLION HOURS A DAY at the White House, which is just weird ) were trying to fuck with their business.
So Pompeo is clearly a problem on Russia, which by extension means he's a problem in his job, since he swore an oath to protect THE CONSTITUTION, from enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC. Maybe somebody at Langley can lend him a copy of the Constitution, for him to read for the first time ever.
Seems like Pompeo sucks on other stuff too. Here's a particularly glaring example:
As part of an effort to expand chaplain services to CIA employees ... Pompeo has consulted with Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, an organization that the Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled an anti-gay hate group.
Neat. The Family Research Council is indeed one of America's largest and most well-funded hate groups. While we understand that CIA officers might need a chaplain from time to time, considering the nature of some of their work, we really doubt they'll be spiritually nourished by right-wing Christian hate banshees with God Hates Fags signs emblazoned on their hearts. Especially if they're Jewish or something.
In conclusion, Mike Pompeo is bad at America and should resign and go back to Kansas to dry-hump cows or whatever he did before he came to Washington.
