We sure do like the Constitution a lot, even the parts that apply to Very Bad People -- count us with the knee-jerk liberals who think that even terror suspects deserve their Miranda rights and their day in court, not indefinite detention.
This guy is no sleazier than the OTHER co-founder of the Minuteman Militia, J. T. Ready. Ready was a Mormon Neo-Nazi GOP candidate for sheriff, a protege of prominent conservative state legislators, investigated by the FBI for the killings of U.S. border officers. If you recall back in the spring of 2012 he committed mass murder of his girlfriend and children before committing suicide. These are not patriots, they are horrible human beings, if they are still human at all.This guy is of a piece with Ready, two of a kind. We can only hope that rational courts will throw the book at him -- but then again, that is probably wishful thinking, this IS Arizona. Any sleaze is acceptable on the right so long as you are sufficiently right wing ideologially.
Isn't it the case with children that questioning in such cases is done with the supervision of a psychologist or psychiatrist present with the child victims, by closed circuit television, protecting the children from direct contact with the molester? I was under the impression that even the questions were reviewed and relayed by the mental health professional so as to provide an additional protective buffer. This is AZ; I would expect the right wing nut border patrol creep to get more consideration and protection than the kids; girls will likely be treated as expendable.
It would be nice if the judge were simply trying to make sure he dotted all the possible 'I's and was crossing all the 'T's to make sure a conviction is not thrown out on appeal.
