Mississippi state Rep. Jeffrey Guice sure didn't mean to be insensitive to Nicole Nichols when she blasted a letter to all the state's electeds asking if anyone could help her in navigating Medicaid for her sick daughter. No sirree buddy Jesus, when Nichols wrote to the people who in theory were elected to help the people of Mississippi, and told them that she was unable to find a Medicaid-covered supplier of insulin and medical devices for her daughter's Type 1 diabetes -- which run about $2500 per month -- and could any of them maybe help a mama out,
It's not the high blood sugar that kills T1s. It's the electrolyte imbalances brought on by the dehydration brought on by the continual peeing to get rid of the sugar. (Well, and acidification of the blood known as DKA, but that's a whole other matter.) We knew enough to get him to an ER quickly for an IV and insulin infusion, so his survival was never in question. But it was mighty uncomfortable, and electrolyte imbalance is never a good thing.
This is why regular (>5x per day) blood glucose testing is a MUST for a T1. I would argue it is for a T2, too, but nobody's asking me for my 2 cents.
Since this D bag doesn't have his own Twitter and seems to shut down a Facebook page I strongly recommend tweeting his employer Century 21 to get him fired. Then he can know what it's like to navigate Medicaid
The issue with diabetes supplies here is that the manufactures managed to renew their patents over and over again for small insignificant changes there by eliminating any possibility of competition and keeping the price is high while people suffer. I feel like if we had Single payer healthcare this shit wouldn't happen
Yep, finger sticks for both of them. My son gets 5-7 per day, up to 10 if he's ill. Husband gets ~5. But it's not as bad as it sounds. You do enough finger sticks, you develop calluses on your fingers that make it less painful. My son has no problem with doing it, he's been having them since he was a baby. My husband who is both a carpenter and a farmer, and therefore has hands like wooden blocks, squeals more about it than his 9-year-old son does :D
Appointments to the PTO and the D.C. Circuit (the court which handles all patent appeals) are also a major area of importance. We need people who are actually keen on enforcing the patent statutes' utility requirement (i.e., that the improvement actually be useful in order to receive protection). Tweaking another amino acid on my NovoLog shouldn't warrant any special treatment unless it drops my blood sugar more effectively as a result. (Or reduces the risk of developing certain... er... dysfunctions, also too).
They know you're clean, and they are not happy about it.
You're probably right. Or maybe the "unpaid intern" is actually his $100,000 a year wife on salary...

5x? Wow. If you don't mind my asking, is he doing this with the finger prick, or some other?
You will be unsurprised to learn that the topic of last month's Children's Sermon at First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs was "Crumbs."
