Missouri State Legislator Nabbed With Marijuana, May Also Listen To BeBop, Cavort With Hussies

A Missouri state representative was arrested Sunday for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Rep. Jeremy LaFaver, a Kansas City Democrat, was stopped for "fail[ing] to respond to an earlier traffic-related offense," which we guess is an actual thing, and when he was pulled over, he was cited for possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana and a marijuana pipe. It is not known whether he was driving a VW Microbus festooned with Grateful Dead stickers at the time.

In a statement, LaFaver apologized for his "serious mistake" and said he is "prepared to face the consequences" for his misdeeds. The statement also said,

"I want to stress that I was not operating under the influence ... I want to assure my constituents that I have received no special considerations, nor do I expect to be treated any differently than any other citizen in my situation."

In addition, LaFaver announced Monday that he would resign as chair of a key fundraising committee for the state Democratic party, saying,

The goal of electing Democrats to the House is too important to the middle class men and women of Missouri for my personal embarrassment to become a distraction[.]

Nonetheless, House Republicans are calling for LaFaver to resign immediately. A GOP spokesman said, "LaFaver has broken trust with the people by behaving with direct and open disrespect for the law and courts[.]"

Meanwhile, legislators in Washington and Colorado sadly shook their heads, said, "Wow, man, sucks to be in Missouri," and passed to the left.
