I think it's worth pointing out that all the librarians I've ever known are fiercely dedicated to preserving and sharing knowledge, art, science, and human stories. This didn't used to be controversial. Now it's enough to brand you Far Left Antifa.
For a really really and gripping good read about how tough smokejumpers (historically) have had it, read Norman McLean's (yes, "A River Runs Through It" McLean) non-fiction book about the Mann Gulch disaster. Set in Montana near Helena; "Young Men and Fire". That incident brought about changes in how fires are fought, but the work is still grueling and people still die.
Another fire that led to some major changes was the South Canyon Fire here in Colorado, which us locals mostly still just refer to as the "Storm King Fire" or even just "Storm King" (e.g. "I remember when Storm King happened"). I still remember the news stories so, so well. Wildland firefighters are amazing, and they really are risking everything when they go out there.
I suspect that establishment Democrats are just as worried about Forstag, concerned that yet another DSA candidate is doing well.
That means the electorate wants what the DSA candidates are selling, not what the establishment is selling, which seems to be "Wait! Wait! Don't hit me!"
“National Democrats are propping up lobbyist Sam Forstag because he's the perfect socialist stooge: obedient, shameless, and desperate to do whatever the radical left demands. Montanans know a bought-and-paid-for fraud when they see one, and Forstag will sell out Montana's values every single time.”
Again, they would run this ad for ANY Democrat running. Even Fetterman. So the “consultants” for these candidates better not be wringing their stupid hands over it.
We are at a very weird and exciting tipping point. I saw it for the 'first' time when Schumer refused to endorse Mamdani and Jeffries gave a petulant begrudging 'endorsement?" at the 11th hour. It also maps out onto RW smears against progressive candidates. The attacks are actually HELPING progressive candidates....The more they come at us the stronger we get. I'd wager that while it probably wouldn't have tanked Mamdani's run, an endorsement from the establishment would have felt...well...kinda GROSS if you know what I mean. Folks (at least more or less normal ones) are finally grokking that they've been lied to. There is only so much you can take seriously complete freakouts from the right and center over progressives after watching hours and hours of Mamdani et al and seeing nothing but reasonable measured upbeat NORMAL things coming out of their normal mouths. If you are going to sell someone as an unhinged irrational radical, you'd better fucking show an unhinged irrational radical...All you do when you misrepresent these good progressive NORMAL politicians is give people the opportunity to learn that you have been LYING to them the whole time
I guess I'll take "not contributing to an ongoing genocide" and not throwing folks like me under the bus, over gun control, but it's annoying that those two things are apparently in opposition.
I mean Bernie got the ball rolling and he gets mad cred for that. We will be forever grateful for that. There was a time (before the recent uptick of young passionate progressive politicians) when he was pretty much the lone voice in the wilderness. But yeah...I'm kinda 'done-ish' with him. But he STILL gets people het up and excited. He's still a celebrity. So I'm not sure anyone should go with my take. IOW He's not doing any harm, I'd just like to see AOC doing other show-ups and coalitions with some of the nice people in her age range LOL!
I still have yet to see Mamdani and AOC sharing a stage. They're probably worried that they'd fall in love on the spot and fly off to heaven together to make beautiful angel babbies and never come back to earth AND WE NEED THEM HERE OK???? SO DON"T EVEN SUGGEST IT!!!OK!???
Hmm. Maybe your fancfic could revolve around him coming into the bar she worked at ten years before we ever heard of AOC and a game of rock-em sock-em robots.
Booksellers didn't want to carry them, because they looked cheap and flimsy and would affect their reputations as sellers of quality products. The only way the publishers got them on board was to agree to reimburse them for any unsold copies, the reimbursement claimed by simply returning the book covers sliced off.
Then, the booksellers sold the coverless books at discount book stores for practically nothing, since it was all profit at that point.

Damn, daddy!
Sam Forstag can put out my fires any time. Any. Time. (If you stop looking, you're dead.)
Please let him not be a jerk or worse.
Hubba-hubba!
I guess I'll take "not contributing to an ongoing genocide" and not throwing folks like me under the bus, over gun control, but it's annoying that those two things are apparently in opposition.
Agree 100%.
My take (and probably yours) was that he was saying: IF you want gvt to keep their hands off your guns THEN X follows
AOC would be wise to distance herself from Bernie, he's counterproductive,
she is likable.
Yeah...BIG mixed feelings over that.

I like the way you think!
Rock em sock em is a great bar game.
I dunno about AOC's love life, but Zohran has already got it going on with his beautiful wife.
She's engaged. Her intended keeps a low profile, for obvious reasons...
And Empty Gee and the Bee Man just tied the knot. It must be something in the wildfire smoke.
Those two deserve each other. UGH
right on...Same dude she was with before her political career began. She has been VERY adept at keeping her worlds separated...kudos on her
He sure does!
People: Florida Is Seeing a Leprosy Surge [https://people.com/leprosy-florida-surge-may-be-caused-by-armadillos-12029003]
Because Florida. Also Ron DuhSantis.
Pray for that Second Coming. Jesus is hell on wheels when it comes to leprosy.
<Puts finger to earbud> I'm being informed that the Second Coming has, in fact, occurred, and Jesus was swept up in an ICE raid.
His whereabouts are currently unknown.
Such an appropriate disease to affect Florida.
It's those accursed armadillos! Originally brought over from Transylvania by Count Dracula.
I wonder how FL Surgeon-General Lapdog will spin this one. Probably blame it on vaccines.
Immigrants. Think he's already said as much
For republicans are disgusting pieces of shit

Green boxes today, I swear - why did they have to give us Equatorial Guinea, honestly . . .

Morning, Diane!
Sips tea. Nibbles cucumber sandwich. Throws cup, saucer and side plate to the ground, where it shatters.

Supposedly Kemi Badenoch's saying the same thing and the Tories are pissed at her.
Imagine how out of favour you have to be for the Tories to overtly censure you.

oh horrible news.
From my podcast feed, this date in history:
July 30, 1935. The first Penguin books are published, kickstarting the paperback revolution.
