I thought DuPont owned Delaware, not Texas.

Whether DuPont should publicly disclose the identity of the chemicals they are using or making is covered by law. That the plant supervisor didn't know what was leaking suggests that too little was known internally. Not good for a company that sells safety training to the chemical industry.

We are. That's why firefighters along the coast tread very, very lightly when the are asked to respond to plants like this. In fact, in many cases, the plant has its own very well staffed and trained fire department. I'm sure an accountant at Dupont determined it was too expensive to have such a resource so we'll just the LaPorte Fire Department (3 fire stations - 13 paid and 70 volunteer firefighters, some who probably know this plant like the back of their hand) said it was beyond their capabilities.

I have managed two incidents involving methyl mercaptan. Conventional structural firefighting clothing will not protect the responder. It must be dealt with using specialized protective clothing.
